There is nothing quite as exciting as watching thousands of people pour into the Jones on a Saturday afternoon. From the pregame hype, to the Masked Rider, to the dynamic offense, Texas Tech football is one of a kind.
1. The Pregame
Thousands of students, local fans, and alumni pour onto campus for the day and the vibe is truly one of a kind. Seeing Will Rodgers and Soapsuds wrapped in crepe paper and smelling barbecue anywhere from the SUB to the Jones is what Saturday afternoons are all about. And of course, Texas Tech students take tailgating very seriously. Whether you're playing cornhole with your student org or shotgunning a beer with your friends at Conference, the tailgates are what we live for.
2. The Tortillas
Throwing tortillas is possibly one of our most interesting and unique traditions. A reporter once said, "there's nothing but Tech football and a tortilla factory in Lubbock" so what did the students do? Made a fun tradition by combining the two. You know you go to Texas Tech when plastic-wrapping tortillas to your torso to sneak them into the stadium is just another day for you.
3. The Entrance
Okay, if you hear to "Higher Ground" by TNGHT or "Mobbin" by Grandtheft and you don't wave your "gun's up" in the air, why are you even listening to that song? If those pregame songs playing through the Jones don't get you hype, the Goin' Band and the Masked Rider surely will. In my junior year, I still get chills every time I hear the Goin' Band echo throughout the stadium and see the Masked Rider and Fearless Champion take off across the field.
4. The Offense
Patrick Mahomes II. Need I say more? There is something so dynamic about our offense that gets everyone so excited to see what they're going to do next. Watching Mahomes fire the ball across the field can make your heart skip a beat, but with our receivers, those passes and receptions can make a game.
5. The Coach
Last, but surely not least, Coach Kliff Kingsbury is arguably the best-looking coach in college football. I mean come on, can anyone rock Ray-Bans as well as Kliff? Not only is our coach hotter than yours, but he also has a great dynamic with the team. If you haven't seen that magazine cover with Kingsbury and Mahomes, the image says it all.
Texas Tech Football is arguably the best part of the fall semester at Tech. From the traditions to the actual game, any Red Raider can attest to the fact that you will never find another school who has what we have.
