Five Reasons TCU Is Still Better Than OSU

Despite the loss, TCU still has the upper hand. But I'm not biased.

All Horned Frog fans were heartbroken after Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma State ended TCU’s perfect season. However, TCU fans can take solace in the fact that despite the loss, TCU still has the better end of the deal.

1. We’ve got Fort Worth.

The beautiful city of the Metroplex offers a wide variety of activities, restaurants, and culture. Whether you’re in the mood for line dancing in the Stockyards or a classy evening in Sundance Square, you’re covered. Better yet, the community truly embraces TCU. Many restaurants and retailers offer “Go Purple Friday,” in which patrons can receive free or discounted items just for wearing purple on a Friday before game day. In comparison, OSU is located in Stillwater. Let’s be honest, the name just sounds dull.

2. We’re Horned Frogs.

The Horned Frog may not seem like the most terrifying mascot, but do not be fooled by its tiny size. In order to ward off predators, the Horned Frogs can shoot blood from their eyes! The blood can squirt up to three feet away. Horned Frogs don’t seem so helpless now, do they? On the other hand, OSU has Pistol Pete. This cowboy caricature lacks originality and doesn’t squirt blood from his eyes. Need I say more?

3. Our colors are purple and white.

TCU's colors are purple and white. White stands for a clean and fair game. Purple stands for royalty. In the Roman Empire, some emperors didn't allow the average citizen to wear the color, reserving it only for royalty. What's more regal than wearing the color of royalty? OSU fans sport orange and black, colors that are often associated with Halloween. The real question is, does anybody actually look good in orange?

4. TCU's Size

TCU is made up of 8,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students. This small size makes for intimate classroom settings and professors who actually get to know you. The average class size is only 27 people! However, on game day, when Amon G. Carter stadium is filled to the brim with enthusiastic frog fans, the school doesn't seem so small! TCU offers the perfect balance of small school atmosphere in the classroom and large school community when it matters the most! OSU boasts a student population of over 25,000 students. While this makes for a large and supportive community, I would personally rather have professors who know my name.

5. We've Got Boykin!

Last, but certainly not least, TCU has Trevone Boykin! The Heisman Trophy contender consistently demonstrates his athletic ability and leadership skills on the field. TCU doesn't need two quarterbacks to consolidate for weaknesses. Boykin has it all! Off the field, Boykin has also demonstrated that he is truly a class act. Who can forget the heart-warming photo of Boykin bending down to talk to the kid captain for Iowa State University, Abby Faber? After the photo went viral, Faber's family received over $38,000 in donations that will go toward the seven-year-old's physical and vision therapies. This is not only a demonstration of Boykin's class and compassion, but the amazing ability of the Horned Frog community to come together for a good cause. I think we even managed to make Faber into a Boykin fan too!

So as the TCU community wallows in our loss, let’s remember than one game does not define a season or our team. While Oklahoma State played extremely well, I am confident that TCU will bounce back from this loss and come back stronger than ever. Go Frogs.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
