Stephen Curry is an unprecedented, unparalleled talent who has completely transcended the professional game of basketball. It used to be that the three-point shooters you saw stood in one position on the court and waited to have the ball passed to them (A.K.A. Spot up shooter). Curry has the unique talent of being able to create his own shot, twisting and contorting his body and ball as one to create breathtaking moments with his range and ability to make his teammates look good (I'm sure Draymond Green with his brand new contract would agree).
It's one thing when you come into the game performing well in one aspect of it–shooting, passing, defending–it is another thing to come into the game and completely transform one aspect of the game to have a complete advantage over all other aspects. The three point shot was a useful tool before Curry, but it wasn't nearly used as much as it is today.
Curry has completely owned anything beyond the three-point arc, and his ability to get back into games when his team is otherwise out of them is unprecedented. Now once again one man on a night to night basis can completely take over the game, as well as the whole league. The only man to ever do that before was Michael Jordan. Now the torch has certainly passed to Curry, here are some reasons why.
1.Image
LeBron James's image as a player has been significantly diminished due to the whole Miami Marvel team-up scenario. LeBron doesn't care about his image because he knows in the end, his talent will be the deciding factor in people's minds in determining if he is the greatest player of all-time or not.
Curry's image remains the same as he has stuck with the team that he was drafted by. Jordan did this with the Chicago Bulls, he worried about what he could control on the team that gave him the opportunity to compete as a young rookie. The same applies to Curry.
2.Family
The greatest advantage that Curry has off the court is the fact that he is surrounded by a solid Family base. His daughter Riley is an Internet sensation for her fashion, singing and dancing (other than being completely adorable).
Also his Father, Dell Curry was a well known 3 point shooter and current all-time points leader for the Charlotte Hornets. So it's safe to say genes also play an important role here.
3. Composure
Michael Jordan was famous for his composure in high-stress moments in not letting the game get into his head. LeBron Is guilty sometimes of letting his play affect his body language, but this just doesn't happen for Curry. Whether he throws up 50 or 5, he's always shooting and dribbling with the same confidence, composure, and aggressiveness.
4.Clutch
The best comparison between Jordan and Curry lies within having the ability to deliver in clutch moments. Jordan had a way of methodically juking his opponents into the floor or brutally forcing contact and making you play him. Curry is able to use finesse to get himself into areas where he is the most accurate, which is anywhere behind the three-point arc, and I do mean anywhere.
5. Marketing
In 1984, Nike needed the poster child for basketball, and they got arguably the greatest footwear marketer to ever live in Michael Jordan. What Curry has done today is very similar, he has gone to a brand in Under Armor that had little success in the game of basketball prior to Curry. Like Jordan, Curry has completely coincided his name with the popularity of the brand he represents.
