You're about to start a new chapter in your life.
Going to senior prom, graduating high school and picking one college out of what seems like 100 that you've applied for...time flies quickly. The fast transition from childhood to adulthood can be overwhelming and frustrating, but if you keep these five thoughts in mind, they could help make your decision easier.
1. Independence
Being on your own for the first time without mom or dad can be both scary and exciting at the same time. You have never had this much freedom before and you're really not sure what to do with it all. Being independent is the best thing that will ever happen. You will have the opportunity to discover the world and yourself. You've got this!
2. Indianapolis Colts
If you're anything like me, you LOVE football, Especially the Indianapolis Colts. Any chance I get, you can bet I'll be at one of their games. This is one of many reasons why I love the city of Indianapolis so much; I love the NFL atmosphere of it. Whenever I set foot into Lucas Oil Stadium, it feels like home. On the off chance you're not a football lover, find out what you love and enjoy about the city your college is in. After all you'll be there for four years, you might as well enjoy your time there.
3. Opportunities
When deciding on a college, make sure it's the one that you know will build you towards a better future. There is nothing worse than wasting time and money on a college that has no career path for you. Invest your time in choosing a college that's right for you and all kinds of opportunities will be knocking on your door.
4. New Faces
Being in a new city and state can be scary at first, you don't know anyone's name and nobody you pass by looks familiar. With that being said, not knowing anyone gives you the chance to make new friends. You get to have a fresh start and make a new name for yourself. When I first started out as a freshman, I didn't know a single person, but once I put myself out there I not only met my roommate, but I met my best friend. For some people it may be scary to meet new people, but it gets easier once you get more involved on campus.
5. Appreciating Home
When you're close to your family and friends, being home can sometimes feel like a reward. Sometimes you forget the good things that home has to offer, like your mother's cooking or your brother's advice. Even though you have a life of your own, there is nothing like home. You really start to appreciate the people that care about you and realize there is nothing greater than the support that your family has for you. It makes it all worth it.
I hope these tips helped you out. At the end of the day, it's your decision and you have to choose a college that will make you happy. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing because at the end of the day it comes down to you. Be happy with your decision and take time to take college visits and apply. It's never too early to start.
