When you consider people your "best friends," what does that mean to you? Do they support every bad decision and let you do things you will regret? Or do they motivate you to be better? Do they sugar coat things and tell you that you are always right? Or can they tell you when it is time to make a change?
Friends that are able to laugh with you and yell at you are the best friends, let me tell you 5 reasons why.
1. They respect you enough to let you know when you're making the wrong choice.
This may come as a surprise to some of you, but not every choice you make is the best choice. Sometimes, you make choices with a blurred vision because you are too close to a situation. Sometimes emotions get the best of you and a decent choice at the time ends up being toxic. Either way, if your friends are able to tell you that you're making the wrong choices, you certainly lucked out.
2. They are able to laugh at your mistakes with you.
Let's face it; you are going to make mistakes. That is OK!!! It is a part of learning, surround yourself with a group of people who can say "I know you made the wrong choice, but life goes on." Those same people will show you just how silly that perm you had to have actually is.
3. They are always looking out for your best interest
Friends that can tell you that going out to dinner with your ex for the 4th time won't change his manipulative personality are friends you keep around. They don't want to see you hurting or struggling, even if you don't think you should trust their judgment — they are outsiders and can see the whole situation openly... just go with it!
4. They took the time to get to know you
If they didn't like you or care about you, they would only be "friends that laughed with you." They got to know you, the things that make you happy, the things that make you sad, and the things that you want to surround yourself with. They know the joke that makes you laugh so hard you snort, and they know how to get you to come clean about a conversation you have been avoiding. They know what to say to calm you down and motivate you, there is a reason they know all of this - give them some credit.
5. They will still love you even when you make the wrong choices
They can tell you "I told you so" and then watch movies and cry with you. They respect that you have to learn some things on your own, so they have a "clean up kit" with chocolate, tequila and your favorite pizza ready for you when you call them at 1 a.m. needing someone.
They are not people who will tell you what you want to hear, they are people that will tell you what you need to hear. Friends that can yell at you and laugh with you, are definitely the best friends to have.
