5 Reactions To The Post-Honeymoon Phase Of The Semester

The new semester is always a challenge, but it’s merely a warm up of small essays and assignments until we all have that one week. The week where everything seems to collide with an exam in every class along work and events galore. Every student knows of this week all too well, I like to call it the post-honeymoon week. The week where exams and essays seem to all stack up at once and the new semester hits you like a train. No more are the days of "I'll study for it later" and keeping that textbook closed. Here are some reactions to this stressful time we can all relate to.

1. Looking at your calendar for the upcoming week.

Filling out a planner is one thing, but actually having to work to get the items crossed out is another. This week may look colorful and welcoming upon first look, but a closer evaluation will have you burning that planner in effort to hide from your responsibilities.

2. When seemingly wonderful professors suddenly become unlikeable.

The first few weeks of a semester always present a lot of uncertainty. We’ve had professors fool us before; therefore, we are like a stray animal warming up to its new owner. A little unsure and certainly don’t want any trouble. When the first grades are entered online or things become quite unorganized, our beloved honeymoon phase is over. We may also feel this way due to the increased workload making us spiteful students for the meantime.

3. Being overly cautious when completing the first big assignments and tests of the semester.

This is when we can all be a little unsure of ourselves. Obvious math problems are typed into our calculator dozens of times and essays are reread until they are practically memorized. Who can blame us for trying to make a good impression?!

4. Regretting not taking advantage of your easier weeks prior to this one.

Still living on the summertime schedule was certainly nice while it lasted, but now you instantly regret not taking advantage of so much time! You can't even comprehend such enormous amounts of time on your hands.

5. You feel as if you're out of practice when taking exams and studying.

It almost feels like a foreign language at first. It's been a solid three months since we've even made an effort to study something and it isn't always easy. Googling study techniques is totally normal for some to get back on track. The first test grades aren't always the best, but at least we've gotten our warm-ups over with.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
