The Greatness Zone

It took long enough.

The weather is finally getting warmer and staying that way, the sun is shining, the nights are getting longer, and pretty much everyone is wrapping up their school years and looking forward to the summer time.

Although it’s bound to be a busy summer for anyone, juggling jobs, internships, summer courses, and precious time with friends from home, there are some things that can’t be missed in these next couple of months.

If you want to make the best of your summer 2016, here are some things to make sure you keep in mind to make it memorable:

1. Tune into the Olympics

They only come around once every two years! And each particular Olympic Games, (like summer or winter), only comes once every 4 years, so enjoy the 2016 summer ones while you can. This year, they are in Rio and run from August 5th- August 21st. Learn the schedule of events, settle down with friends and family, and support your favorite country in this global tradition.

2. Visit your favorite beach

I have had too many summers where I regret not having had the time to plan a day on the beach. Nothing beats the warm sun and sand, crashing sound of the waves, and relaxing experience that you get at the beach. So, making time to visit your favorite beach during this summer is a must. Find some friends, pack sunscreen, a lunch, and a good book, and make the most of the beautiful weather with a trip out.

3. Go see Finding Dory

You’ve been waiting for this movie for over 10 years, whether you knew it or not. As the generation that grew up on Finding Nemo, this sequel is sure to stir up feelings of nostalgia and make you feel like a kid again. It premieres June 17th and it’s bound to have a great showing of faithful fans both young and old, so don’t be afraid to go and see it too!

4. Go to a concert

I can’t recommend a specific concert because everyone has different tastes and will be in different areas but I can recommend that you go and see someone you love. Even though they’re usually an expensive and stressful time with figuring out parking and seating, they are well worth it once you are there. Seeing an artist or band that you love, live and in person, is sometimes a once in a lifetime chance, and a memory you’ll carry with you forever.

5. Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower

My sister and I were fortunate enough to have been able to watch this event last summer, and it was incredible. I had never seen a shooting star before then, and that night I saw dozens of them. This year, in this northeast region, the shower is the night of August 12th. Learning from last year, I recommend fully committing yourself to the shower when it starts. That means leaving the phones inside because the light will mess with your ability to see the meteors and just laying outside for a while in quiet to completely immerse yourself and enjoy. You will be glad you did!

No matter what you’re into, keep in mind some of these ideas as you’re planning work schedules and trips. And, of course, make sure to spend lots of time with family and friends, enjoy every beautiful sunset you can, and eat plenty of ice cream! You don’t want to regret missing any amazing summer experiences or unforgettable memories!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
