Ah, March Madness, the most wonderful time of the year when you go to school like mine that basically breathes basketball. Sure, I may not know much about sports, but even I can't help but fall in love with the excitement that this time of year brings. The energy on campus is tangible and everyone is in the spirit of things, busting out their team apparel and slaving over the "perfect bracket". Here are 5 things you know to be true if you go to a big basketball school during march madness.
1. Needing to watch the game at all times, no matter where you are.
Every TV on campus is tuned in to the game and all of your friends hold watch parties in their dorms, empty classrooms, or in the student center. If you're in class, you can count on seeing almost every student with the game pulled up on their laptop.
2. Making the "perfect" bracket.
Almost everyone makes one and every club, organization, and friend group has their own bracket challenge, making your choices a little more important when the chance to win some much needed cash is available. If you're anything like me, you choose random schools and hope for the best.
3. Pretending you're friends with the team.
Seeing a basketball player around campus is basically like seeing a celebrity and don't even get me started on what it's like to see the coach. So, when the players are off-campus playing in the tournament, campus is a little sad but you still refer to each player like they are your best friend (even though they don't know you exist) and wish them the best of luck.
4. Emotions run high.
Stress, excitement, and anxiety levels are basically through the roof as you watch each game and hope that your team will pull through
5. Campus comes together.
No matter who you are or who you know, everyone comes together as a school to unite in supporting the team. There's no greater feeling than seeing kids walk around in their school gear and celebrating each victory together and hoping that we can all celebrate the victory at the end of the tournament.
