Thanksgiving is one of the most wonderful times of the year. Naturally, students across the nation are excited and prepared for the long awaited break before finals. Here are five things that my friends love about Thanksgiving!
1. Family
"I love the fact that all of my family comes together on a special day for the same reason, to spend time giving thanks together." -Kenedey
Friends, family and loved ones all come together on a single day for the same reason, and that is such a powerful thing. From far and wide, people gather to break bread and spend quality time with one another. If that is not a beautiful event, I don't know what is.
2. Travel
"I get to go all over the place, and that is so cool!" -Kirstyn
Hand in hand with the gathering of family, people have the opportunity to travel all over to reach these loved ones. Travel is such a rewarding experience, and thanks to Thanksgiving (pun intended), people are able to see things they may never be able to otherwise. Whether you fly, drive or hitch hike your way to that special dinner that happens once a year, you get to see some pretty amazing sights.
3. Food
"Dude, food comas are the best." -Alissa
After all the travel and excitement of seeing family and friends, most people have quite an appetite built up. No matter who prepares the big meal, we are all ready to devour it as soon as possible. Throughout the day, as everything is cooked, you may munch on snacks here and there, but nothing beats the first bite of mashed potatoes with gravy or green been casserole. Don't even get me started on the turkey or dessert!
4. Break from School
"I can always appreciate a hard earned break, especially right before finals time comes along." -Sarah
Right before the time crunch of the semester, Thanksgiving Break is a true blessing. People are exhausted from the rest of the semester, and they are ready to get away and relax. The rest and relaxation is especially needed before the last few weeks and finals.
5. Giving Thanks
"This holiday means so much to my family and I. We know times can be tough, so it is important to be grateful for pleasant circumstances." -Donnie
Personally, I believe that Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays. It is important to remember to set time aside to truly give thanks for the things one has in life. There are other people who would be elated to be in the same situation as most of us. A lot of the time, it is tremendously easy to live our lives without ever giving thanks for what we have, so Thanksgiving provides us the opportunity to do so.
Happy Holidays everyone!
