44 Thoughts During Choir Rehearsal

Oh choir. There's nothing else like singing with a bunch of other people, harmonizing, making music with your voices. It's not as popular as it used to be, but something a unique breed of people still enjoy. Those usually tend to be the singers, but we don't care. We're just there to sing. But the process of pulling off a great ensemble is more than meets the eye. And you think a lot during rehearsals that people who don't sing probably don't know. But I'm here to share that with you.

1. Oooohkay this song should be fun.

2. Actually I hate this. What is this?

3. Not solfege again...

4. What is this note. Do? no wait it's Mi?

5. I'm just going to mumble the words but sing the right note.

6. Wow we sound terrible right now. The concert should be great.

7. Oh yes we're moving on to that other piece we've been working on for weeks.

8. Whoever is right behind me keeps singing the wrong note at measure 43.

9. Wrong. Again.

10. Can't she hear herself singing it wrong?

11. Oh cool someone asked to go over that part so it can be fixed.

12. Ah, so much better.

13. Oooohkay what is this rhythm.

14. Sopranos just crashed and burned on that section.

15. Lol. WHAT am I singing right now?

16. Why aren't we stopping to fix that. We sounded like dying geese.

17. We sound like dying geese right now.

18. I don't remember this part. Is this new?

19. Back to the beginning? It better be to fix everything.

20. YES. Altos have to fix their problems first. Sopranos get to sit down. Hallelujah.

21. Oh wow they sound way better than we do.

22. We're going to be that section in the concert.

23. Our turn. Yayyy.

24. WOW I am singing way too loud.

25. Am I always that loud?

26. Okay now I can't even hit that note because I'm trying to sing so quiet.

27. How many minutes let of class?

28. I have to pee but I know I'll be in trouble if I ask to go.

29. "You have plenty of time to use the restroom before the beginning of class."

30. Does that girl have gum in her mouth?

31. How can you possibly chew gum and sing?

32. Sweet we're moving on to the next piece.

33. Ah yes it's in german.

34. These words are so fun to pronounce.

35. Was she cutting our section off on our part or what was that?

36. Okay now I'm confused.

37. Need. Clearer. Hand. Gestures.

38. Our pianist is so talented. #Blessed.

39. Sopranos just nailed that section. Yes.

40. What homework do I have tonight?

41. At least I never have choir homework.

42. Is it time to go yet?

43. Yes class is over.

44. Wait no, now I have to go to calculus. Merh.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
