Fact no. 1: Body shaming is bullying. It contributes to low self esteem, eating disorders, etc etc. Our society has put an emphasis on the beauty in being tall and skinny. This contributes to the bullying that happens when someone is overweight. It is most definitely a form of bullying, but most people don't even look at it like that. No one should ever be made fun of because of their weight. People come in all shapes and sizes and that is perfectly NORMAL.
Fact no. 2: Body shaming comes in all forms. Skinny shaming or fat shaming, male or female, it's all the same. Under fact no.1 I talked about how our society puts an emphasis on being tall and skinny. Some how, that seems to give people the idea that people who ARE tall and skinny can be made fun of without being offended...Not okay. Saying to someone who is underweight, "Eat a hamburger," is just as bad as saying, "Go to the gym," to someone who is overweight. Posting something like "real women have curves," and "bones are for dogs," -- like are you kidding me??? Body shaming of ALL kinds is bad. Don't put other people down to bring yourself up. Ever. People who are underweight have insecurities just like everyone else. Maybe you don't see how they could ever be insecure, but everyone is their own worst critic, and everyone has things they wish they could change about themselves. Whether you are tall, short, curvy, slim, it shouldn't matter. Let people be happy in their own skin.
Fact no 3: THERE IS NO BODY TYPE FOR "REAL MEN/WOMEN." This quote is seen more often referring to women, but it is inadvertently applied to men too. Men get body shamed just like women! *GASP.* It's true. Being "masculine" is thought of as having big muscles and a tough demeanor. If men aren't these things, they are often shamed and "aren't real men." hey are thought to be less masculine. That's a ridiculous way of thinking. Men and women, in all different sizes, are body shamed in our society. There is no "perfect" or "correct" size. Love yourself. And surround yourself with people who love you too.
Let's be honest. "Real men/women" are made of cells. So really, we're all the same, right?
