In Northeastern Ohio we are very WELL AWARE that everything is EARNED and NOT GIVEN. When we won The NBA Championship on June 19th, 2016 the unbelievable happened. We beat The Golden State Warriors that not only had a 73-9 regular season but The Cleveland Cavaliers were also down 1-3 in the NBA Finals. During that time, The Cleveland Indians were on a game winning streak and they ended up winning 14 games in a row!!! Now- fast forward 4 months and here we are now. Just a couple days away until the Championship Ring Ceremony for The Cleveland Cavaliers AND Game ONE of THE WORLD SERIES against the Chicago Cubs. For some, people can't believe this is really happening- they actually don't even believe that this is not a dream. We haven't won a World Series since the 1940's and I've never lived in a lifetime where we've won a National Championship... So this is a HUGE deal!!!! As a Northeastern Ohio native, I can say that I've been raised to look forward to this day for all of my life and here are just some of the feelings I'm experiencing approaching the next couple of days!
1. We're actually dreaming
Clevelander's have been watching Major League since it came out 25 years ago and fans actually cry during that movie because all we have ever wanted was our team to WIN A WORLD SERIES. After the 1995 and 1997 Cleveland Indians broke our hearts, it's not that we gave up hope- it's just that we couldn't believe that the World Series slipped away right before our eyes. Now, in a couple of days, we are re-living a moment that gave us back our hope and witnessing greatness between two teams that haven't won IN A VERY LONG TIME.
2. We don't want this year to end
I'm not a fan of change and I don't want to live in a world where The Cleveland Cavaliers have to start over and start a new season where they have to prove *yet once again* that they are the best. I know in my heart that they are- I just don't want anyone to stop it. And as for The Cleveland Indians, I have enjoyed watching this team so much that I don't want anyone to leave. They have meshed so well and they are the perfect group!
3. Nervous as hell
As a Clevelander, you would be lying if you said you weren't nervous for this World Series Run starting on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016. But as a Clevelander, you'll be behind the Indians no matter what the turnout is.
4. Happiness
We are happy to be alive to see this awesome opportunity. I'm not really sure when something so WONDERFUL and AMAZING will happen again (let alone on the same night), but I know I'm going to cherish it while I can.
I hope to see so many faces in the city of Cleveland on 10/25/2016. It'll be a special day to be apart of!
