Well hi, there fellow, insomniacs! You’re probably reading this at some ungodly time at night when you really wish that you could be like a normal human being and actually sleep instead of reading this article because I sure know that I wish I was sleeping instead of writing this article at 3 a.m. But I digress. Before we dive into our thoughts that keep us up, those of you who don’t know, an insomniac is someone who suffers from insomnia.

What’s insomnia? Simply put, it’s the inability to sleep. Falling asleep and staying asleep are simply not in the cards for us. Maybe you have friends who have this issue and are notorious for napping at strange times during the day, having dark circles around their eyes or posting on social media at 2 am. For you daytime folk, here’s what we Nocturnals really think and do while you’re all snug and sound asleep.

1. “I wonder if anyone is actually up beside me? That’d be nice to have someone to have late night conversations with... but everyone is probably asleep.”

2. *Texts/snaps/DMs people to see if they’re awake at 3:32 a.m.*

3. “I’m hungry”

4. “I wonder if they’re any places open that deliver food”

5. *Eats*

6. *Scrolls through BuzzFeed*

7. *Online shops*

8. “Might as well try to go to the bathroom”

9. *Brain decides to remind you of all your most embarrassing moments since you were born in chronological order*

10. *Brain decides to think of that scary movie you saw about serial killers wearing hockey masks*

11. *Promptly sits through the rest of the night with the light on*

12. *Watches 30 videos of baby turtles eating lettuce*

13. *Listens to an entire playlist*

14. “Maybe I’ll watch some Netflix!”

15. *Burns through an entire 10 season series in one night*

16. “Since I’m up I might as well write that paper that’s due in a month. Getting ahead of the game!”

17. *Writes paper and turns it in, does all homework, reads required reading and “War and Peace” for fun*

18. *Scrolls through BuzzFeed again just to realize that there’s no new content*

19. “Maybe someone messaged me back!”

20. Nobody messaged you back.

21. “What time is it anyway?” *checks clock* “It’s only 2:30???”

22. “If I fall asleep now, then I can get five hours of sleep before I have to wake up for my 8 am class”

23. *Brain decides to remind you of something really deep and emotional that puts you in your feels and makes you ugly cry*

24. “I really should clean my room” *cleans room, reorganizes desk, color codes closet according to season*

25. *Brain runs different fantasies and scenarios where you’re the hero in your head*

26. *Eats ice cream*

27. *Takes a walk around the house/neighborhood without trying to wake anyone up*

28. *Googles random shit ranging from ‘Michael Jackson conspiracy theory’ to ‘are rhinos related to unicorns?’*

29. *Takes every personality quiz on the face of the earth*

30. “I wonder what time it is now?” *checks clock* “It’s only 4:30?? If I fall asleep now, I can get 2 hours, 10 minutes and 23 seconds of sleep in!”

31. *Doesn’t fall asleep*

32. “Oh look, the sun rise! Maybe I’ll sleep tomorrow night.”

Insomnia can be a real struggle. Try talking to your doctor about taking melatonin or participating in a sleep study to find out what may be causing your insomnia. It's hard to function on no sleep so take action to try and take care of yourself! Sweet Dreams!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
