Just like a good portion of the people I know, I suffer from anxiety. My anxiety ranges from not getting out of bed feeling depressed to mildly stressed. I've tried a handle full of ways to manage and keep my anxiety arm length away. Recently what I've found to work with my different types of anxiety is exercising! Now I'm sure you've heard it before but the benefits are really amazing. Exercising can help with your anxiety short and long term.
1. Exercising helps you de-stress.
Like I said, my anxiety rages from day to day. Regardless how it ranges I always get my body moving, at least for 15 minutes or until I'm heavy breathing. When I'm under stressed my body suffers from it, my neck and shoulders get tense and on occasion, I get horrible headaches. The benefits of exercising for stress are a handful of things. The brain releases endorphins which are the happy chemical in the brain it also helps relieve pain. Exercising helps relax your muscles from being tense, it's a win-win.
2. Exercising helps relieve anxiety.
Almost every day I get the overwhelming feeling of anxiety and that's why I turned to working out because I was willing to try anything. The benefits for anxiety with exercising are incredible. This is a simple anti-anxiety treatment, which I didn't know but I'm glad I stumbled upon it. When you're working it the endorphins being released help with your well-being.
Any work out can help with your anxiety but what I've noticed is that you need to be focused on something with whatever workout you choose to do. This will help you with any worries that are floating through your head.
3. Exercising helps fight depression.
You know that feeling where nothing seems to be looking up for you and you can't roll out of bed? I used to feel like that a lot and one day I just had enough. I did a little research on if exercising was good for anxiety depression and turns out it's very beneficial. Starting and keeping an exercise routine is very important, exercising is powerful like an anti-depressant. Keeping the routine going helps for our minds and bodies not to relapse back into depression. During your workout, our brain is releasing all kinds of chemicals promoting changes. Exercising can act as a distraction allowing you time to yourself and not feeling trapped in your mind.
Whether you're suffering from one of these three things or something else, it gets better. Never stop trying to find a way that helps you take the edge off of it. Whether it's exercising, journaling or talking it out. There's away never give up.
