My mother has had a difficult life, but because of it she has grown to be strong and learned many valuable lessons along the way. One of the most important lessons she has taught me is to always find the positive in a situation. She always said that if we all sat down at a big table and laid out the negative things from our lives, we would look at what everyone else is dealing with and glad leave with the negative things in our own lives. In this crazy and scary world we live in if we don't search for and make positivity in our own lives, it seems bleak. With that in mind I have some tips to help and improve positivity and happiness in your own life!
Challenge yourself to look for the positive in every situation.
This might seem ridiculous at first, but I promise you that there is always a silver lining to be found. For example, you're running late for work and there's a huge traffic jam. The positive in this situation could be that you have time to actually finish your coffee before getting to work or that you can listen to your favorite radio station for longer. Starting small with everyday annoyances like these will make it easier for you to find the good parts of worse situations.
Become more grateful for the things you already have.
It's easy to look at those around you and be envious of what they have, but we often don;t think about the things in our own lives that we have been blessed with. Some people have talents that they don't realize or don't maximize. We live in a very materialistic society, so it is common to associate self-worth and happiness with how much you own and what you own, but this isn't true. Having the latest iPhone or the biggest house doesn't have anything to do with who you are deep down.
Look for the good in people.
There are plenty of bad people in the world today who don't have good intentions. However there are many others who mean well, but don't express it in the right way or are having a bad day. I know that there have been instances where I haven;t given someone a goo impression simply because they caught me at the wrong time. If we all start to cut each other more slack, then we will be happier ourselves.
Albus Dumbledore once said that "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." We are in charge of our own happiness if we do not put it in the hands of others. Life is difficult and there will always be tragedy in the world, but if we try to find the positives maybe there will be less sadness. We are only given one life, so why waste it being sad?
