24 Things That Only Kellenberg Students Would Know

If you went to, go to, or even work at Kellenberg all of these things can be relatable.

1. It is completely normal to see animals strolling around the school.

At Kellenberg there are dogs, parrots, fish, peacocks, etc. you name it, Kellenberg has it. Once you walk in, we are always expected to be greeted by the calling of the parrots in the lobby. The labs, the courtyards, and the hallways are all other places to expect to see all types of animals as well. This was a cool part of high school because it was half high school and half zoo. Better yet, most students knew all dogs by name (and there were a lot).

2. The Courtyards.

Or should we call them a scenic route to class? Kellenberg had way more than 1 courtyard and it was always something beautiful to see. They had ponds full of fishes, ducks, they had pathways, plants, and tree

3. The 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, before class, and before lunch prayer.

Kellenberg always made time for prayer through various times throughout the day. We all know that there was to be no movement when the 12 o'clock prayer came on in the hallway almost as it became second nature. Every teacher lead the class in a prayer before each class began. On average a student probably prays 15 times before the school day ends.

4. The morning announcements

No one can forget the morning announcements with a prayer video, (Two Sets of Jones, Jesus Take The Wheel, etc.) a prayer, the pledge of allegiance, and then the live announcements from students of Kellenberg.

5. The Thursday monthly mass

Every student remembers the monthly mass, The Triumph of The Cross, The May Crowning, and all other events Kellenberg had in which we celebrated mass.

6. The Five-Hour Graduation

So many students and so many awards calls for a long graduation.

7. The Famous Bells

8. Students Work At Their School?

People never understood when I told them that my high school hired people to work during the year and also during the summer. Kellenberg offered students a part time job for some cash over the summer while trying to maintain Kellenberg in the form it was in.

9. Trimesters and Comprehensive Exams

Every Kellenberg student knows this pain. Unfortunately, no one was allowed to leave the test until the allotted 3 hours were up, the worst part was finishing and staring at the wall until the time was up. College finals are easier than studying for these.

10. Triple A

11. Not 'Middle School' But 'Latin School'

Kellenberg doesn't have middle schoolers, they have Latin schoolers and teach their 7th and 8th graders Latin. And no...latin is not easy.

12. No Backpacks At Lunch

Kellenberg is probably the only school that doesn't allow any work or backpacks at lunch. Anyone else remember clean up duty?

13. Uniforms

Never had the pain of picking out an outfit in the morning during my years of middle school and high school. Although, whenever I would go out somewhere in those years, I had literally NOTHING to wear.

14. Marianist Mentors

15. Retreats and Founders Hollow

Did your high school have a house upstate that held a bunch of high school students for a few days? Mine did.

16. Senior Sweaters

This was a big deal in high school. All the seniors got to wear a 'senior sweater' instead of their blazer during the school day.

17. Penny Loafers

Everyone had those friends at Kellenberg who put pennies in the front of their penny loafers. These were the worst kind of shoes to break in.

18. Blue & Gold

Best part of Kellenberg, enough said.

19. No Homework When The Bishop Came

The best PM announcement of the school year.

20. Extracurricular Activities

Kellenberg goes above and beyond with clubs, sports, and anything you can think of. Name a club they have it.

21. Grey and Green Slips, Academic Deficiency & Demerits

Pretty much, you did not get away with anything. Remember the handbook.

22. Tae Kwon Do

Apparently this is not a thing anymore, but if you don't remember Kicho 1 did you really go to Kellenberg?

23. Senior Trip To Disney World

24. Once A Firebird Always A Firebird

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
