22 Signs You Went To Catholic School

Everyone who went to a Catholic school can understand this. From getting the classic "oh, you don't go to public school...?" to your public school friends being cherished gatekeepers to a social life, there was no denying the fact that things were different for you. Looking back, I would never trade anything for my 13 (and counting) years in Catholic school, and I'm positive that many can fondly relate to that feeling.

1. You understand what someone means when they call their K-8 catholic school a "grammar school."

2. Uniforms. No matter how much you fought... there was no avoiding everyone dressing almost completely the same.

3. You tried your best to get around the dress code. From rolling skirts to wearing black sneakers or ankle socks, you prayed there wouldn't be a uniform check.

4. You knew everyone in your class... which wasn't too hard when it was a small amount of people who were in the same class for years.

5. It was easy for information to spread quickly when there were only about 20 kids in your class.

6. Having a new kid in the class was a huge moment in your class history.

7. You spent years attending mass more than once a week: first with your school during the week, then with your family on Sunday.

8. At those masses, it was an honor to be chosen for a part.

9. Sex Education class just simply did not exist.

10. ... other than the one credible fact.

11. Someone telling you about eternal damnation really doesn't phase you.

12. The day did not start until the morning prayer and Pledge were conducted.

13. You have spent more time than you would prefer explaining to someone that not ALL of the teachers are priests or nuns.

14. ...but you can't lie. There were some.

15. You went to Confession as a school or class, and spent days in advance questioning everything in your life.

16. ...and out of nervousness to the priest you saw almost everyday, you probably just said that "I fight with my siblings" and/or "I don't always listen to my parents."

17. You remember different religious things based on songs such as "Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, heard the news and passed it on..."

18. There was often clapping, hand movements, and dancing to go with these songs (that you still remember).

19. Ash Wednesday was the worst day to wipe your forehead with your school shirt.

20. You know that "leave enough room for the Holy Spirit" IS a real thing.

21. Sitting next to the person you liked at masses meant you got to hold their hand during the Our Father.

22. No matter how much you complained about it... you'll always love your Catholic school and will cherish the friends made there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
