There are just some things that our friends back home will never fully understand. We love it here so much that there's even an Instagram account called "JMUlove" filled with submitted pictures of our beautiful campus. From the spectacular sunsets to the endless amount of trips to the puppy farm...these are only a couple of features unique to JMU. Admit it; you're guilty of posting at least one of these on your Instagram account at some point.
*Small disclaimer: I had permission from my friends to stalk their Instagram accounts and use their pictures..I promise I'm not that creepy)
In no particular order:
1. Wilson Hall
This one's a given. Wilson hall is JMU's most iconic building on campus. Sunshine, rain, snow, hail the size of mini vans...this building looks incredible through it all.
2. Sunsets
There's something special about sunsets here that you just don't see anywhere else. The best views are from East campus, especially from ISAT.
3. Puppies
One thing I picked up on rather quickly is how puppy crazed JMU students are. We hold doors for people, and we love puppies. So a place that exists for the sole purpose of playing with them and loving them is only fitting. If you go to the puppy farm and don't post a pic of you holding a puppy, did you actually go?
4. Pizza from Benny's
As an out of state student from New York, I can safely say that Benny's pizza is as close as you'll get NY style pizza in Harrisonburg. It doesn't fit on one plate and it's bigger than your head!
5. The Burruss Fountain
This fountain is another icon of JMU. It changes color at night which is pretty rad. Fun fact: one time, someone filled it with bubbles and turned it into a bubble bath. True story.
6. Zane-Showker Stadium (and football games in general)
This is the perfect photo opportunity. You can take a picture of just the stadium, of you and your friends with the stadium in the background, of streamers coming down when there's a touchdown...the possibilities are endless.
7. Hanging with the life-size J-Maddy statue
They tell you when you tour that this statue of James Madison, himself, is in fact life-size. It's intriguing! Whether you kiss him, sit in his arms, pose next to him or any other variation, it's a great photo op.
8. Union Springs Tower
Jumping off of the Union Springs Tower is on the JMU bucket list and is a great way to cool off when it gets hot during the spring/summer months. Every picture is essentially taken from the same angle and looks incredible each time.
9. The infamous train tracks
Ah, the infamous train tracks. We all love hearing the train chug across campus at the wee hours of the morning. At least the tracks look really pretty in the fall!
10. Anything with the quad as the background
Everything looks better with the quad in the background! It complements any photo perfectly.
11. Skating at Funky's
Funky's is the place to go on a Friday night. Even if you're not the best skater, you can still hang around and then post a cute pic later, right?
12. Kline's Ice cream
As an avid ice-cream eater, I can validate that yes, Kline's is worth the hype. What's more classic than a pic of the lit up sign?
13. Sitting on the Duke dog statue
We love sitting on statues here (if you couldn't tell) and this statue is one of the best ones for it!
14. Campus Cookies
A campus cookie is like a warm hug. They're a very delicious, but dangerous thing. (My bank account can validate that one)
15. The Duke dog mascot
The only person more famous than President Alger himself is the Duke dog. He's a celebrity! What do you do when you spot a celebrity? Take a pic with them!
16. Hiking in the Shenandoah Valley
Shenandoah Valley has breathtaking views and endless hiking opportunities. It's a perfect excuse to get some fresh air, take in the views and take a sweet pic.
17. The classic ISAT J-Maddy statue
Last, but certainly not least, the ISAT James Madison Statue. It's quite the opposite from the life-size statue, but it's just as iconic. The best picture is from behind with one of East campus' famous sunsets.
