1. You spend all your money at the Alpha Gam Boutique.
You can't wait for emails about new deals and new spirit wear. You love every shirt and want every decoration for your chapter room or dorm room. Every item is cute and you want to show your Alpha Gam love every minute of every day, from t-shirts to water bottles to canvas bags.
2. No matter your school colors, your wardrobe contains a lot of red, yellow, and green.
Alpha Gamma Delta's colors are red, buff, and green. My college colors are red and yellow, but most of my shirts are red and green, including sorority wear.
3. We all act like Doug from "Up" when we see a squirrel.
Our sorority mascot is the squirrel. Every time I see a squirrel, I have to yell "Squirrel!". There's something about those cute cheeks and bushy tails. My campus has many squirrels, and I love seeing them and watching them running right in front of me on my way to class or the cafeteria.
4. The most loyal.
Alpha Gams are some of the most loyal girls you'll ever meet. Our friendships go beyond the chapter and sorority. We're loyal to our friends, our sisters, and our college.
5. Involvement.
All of my sisters have other clubs and organizations and for some, sports and jobs, that we split our time with. We're busy like the little squirrels we are.
6. Obsessed with donuts.
If you aren't already, after joining Alpha Gam, you'll be obsessed with donuts. The comfort food of choice for us.
7. It's Alpha Gam.
Any girl of AGD will correct you if you continue calling the sorority 'Alpha Gamma Delta'. Everyone shortens the sorority name to a simpler version, usually Alpha Gam.
8. Leadership.
Not only are Alpha Gams involved in many other organizations, but most also hold leadership positions, whether in the sorority, other organizations, or at jobs. Many women will hold more than one office as an Alpha Gam.
9. Mixing business and fun.
My sisters know how to take care of business and get serious during chapter meetings and business events, but we also know how to kick off our heels, shimmy out of our dresses, and let loose. We balance business and fun with socials and random parties in the dorm lobby.
10. Social life and studying.
Alpha Gams have fun, but we also take our academics seriously. From study hours to study buddies, we make sure our members focus on academics and reach their potential.
11. You know the names of all 11 Founders.
Alpha Gam history is important to all members. You not only know all the Founders names, but you know random facts about each of them and think about which Founder matches your personality. You've probably taken multiple "Which Founder are you" quizzes, only to feel disappointed when you didn't match with your fave. BTW, it's Georgia Dickover.
12. Recruitment songs are forever etched into your brain.
You will find yourself randomly singing recruitment and bid day songs in the shower, walking to class, and at any point in the day. You'll start singing to activate sister to annoy her and get songs stuck in her head as well.
13. You want to be featured in the Quarterly or on IHQs insta.
You dream of seeing your face in the magazine or anywhere on social media. You post pictures with many Alpha Gam hashtags, hoping Alphahamihq will re-share your photo. You won't settle for a like.
14. The hand sign.
You've seen your sisters do it hundreds of times and can't stand when someone doesn't do it right. Every picture with a sister or you in the sunset, you make the hand sign. You've probably practiced making it in your room.
15. Impact The World is your motto.
You live with purpose every day and hope to impact the world. Every action you take relates to the purpose and motto.
Lastly, you can't imagine being in any other sorority, wearing any other letters with any other colors.
For those going through recruitment in hopes of finding your home, don't
go into recruitment only with your heart set on Alpha Gamma Delta or
any one sorority. Keep an open mind and get to know the sisters from all
the sororities. You'll find where you're meant to be, whether in Alpha Gam or not.
