15 Thoughts You Might Be Having As A Tigers Fan In 2016

Because it's the Tigers.

15 Thoughts You Might Be Having As A Tigers Fan In 2016

If you are a fan of the Detroit Tigers, likely you know that they are historically one of the greatest teams ever to play the game. Maybe not at the level of the Yankees or the Red Sox, but still pretty good. Lately, though, being a fan of the team has been slightly disappointing in the wake of a long, remaining season. Injuries happen, bats disappear, pitchers lose their sense of focus, and the team, in general, begins to go on long losing streaks. Yeah, though I tend to label myself an "angry Tigers fan", I was born and raised a fan of the team and therefore will never be so of any other. Here's what you might have been thinking over the past month as the season has progressed:

1. "Justin Verlander will never in the hall of fame..."

Let's be honest, JV has a resume that includes two no-hitters, a Cy Young and a Triple Crown. Unfortunately, his numbers are likely going to prevent him from getting a spot, as his ERA is roughly 3.5 and still needs several wins. Yet, there is no questioning that he is one of the greatest pitchers in franchise history.

2. "Daniel Norris is good, but..."

The guy keeps getting hurt. After his first at-bat in 2015, he was forced to exit the game with a right oblique strain and has not yet pitched in 2016 due to a DL-enabling injury caused during spring training. But when Norris is on top of his game, I tell you, man, the media wasn't lying when they said he was a top prospect.

3. "What's going on with Miguel Cabrera?"

Not leading the team in home runs, one of the lowest seasonal batting averages on the entire roster. Still, there is no doubt he is one of the greatest of all time and certainly one of the best (if not THE best) currently playing. The sad part of it is, though, Verlander has a higher batting average (.333) than he does this season- from ONE hit during the first game in Miami.

4. "Ian Kinsler is pipin' hot..."

Although Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been the highlight of the team's home run-hitting, Kinsler currently leads in batting average as well as hits. And when he goes for it, he goes for it. Also, one of the hottest second basemen in the game.

5. "Brad, seriously?"

Ausmus is disliked and sometimes taunted by both fans and some players. I try to leave my nose out of it.

6. "Chief Wahoo is a yahoo..."

Detroit-Cleveland is a promising new baseball rivalry. Though I didn't feel it when I saw the teams play each other in June 2014 at Progressive Field, one Cleveland fan yelled at my little brother and told him to get off the ramp, because he was shorter than the rest of us and couldn't see. And I exchanged words with this person, trying not to throw a fist. We may not be at Dodgers-Giants or Yankees-Red Sox status yet, but it's definitely but unwantedly obtainable.

7. "The Royals, oh the royals!"

Just, don't even get me started. They drive me insane, and I literally celebrate when we beat them. (Which isn't often)

8. "Salty. Salty SALTY..."

He's tied for second place for the most home runs this season at 6. Moral of this bullet? Saltalamacchia has demonstrated outstanding potential in Motown despite having played for several teams over the years. (A great catcher, as well).

9. "Don't even get me started on Zimmermann..."

Three started games, still a 0 ERA and leading the majors. Obviously, there is still a ton of season left. But this is news for all of us as Tigers fans (and baseball watchers in general).

11. "The Price wasn't right..."

The next thing we know, he's in Toronto and now Boston. If Keuchel hadn't won the AL CY Young award, I'm certain it would have been him. Thousands of Tigers fans (including myself) think letting Price was a blunt mistake but as my dad always told me: Baseball is Business.

12. "We all have bad days..."

And Sanchez had a pretty bad one the other day. And this applies not only to baseball but practically to any life situation, so keep this in mind before you realize that somebody could get hit by a pitch or give up eight earned runs over a short period of time.

13. "Maybe we won't finish last this year..."

Eh, we can always hope. The Twins aren't doing great, but I think we'd be better off hoping that somebody destroys the Royals and keeps beating on the Indians and the White Sox. But, clearly, we also need some work on our team, seeing as how my dad referred to the team as being "losers" from time to time.

14. "I'm not a fair-weather fan, though."

And as a fan of the Tigers, you shouldn't be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
