If you are anything like me, perhaps this summer was a revelation! Before, you were worried if everything you were doing at the time was to benefit your future career. You went through a tough time of figuring out what you like and dislike. You even went through a time period where you decided to travel the golden brick road down to a different major, and thus career. But, now, you are ready! You have finally realized that everything is going to fall in place and come together just the way you want it. Cue the calm feelings. And, sorry, Rolling Stones! You can get some satisfaction this time! In fact, you are so ready for this new found glory that you are eager to take on the world being a whole new person, rather a real person.
1. You can pay for (most of) your stuff. If you have rent, phone bills, and food bills covered (or at least one of the three), you're most definite a real person.
2. You no longer care about rejection. That date never texted you back? LOL. Your only thought: Your loss, bro. Good luck trying to find a cooler person.
3. Friends aren't a security blanket for you anymore. You only have a select few friends to confide in.
4. You're pretty okay with going to concerts, restaurants, and events alone. There's no need for a posse to make you feel comfortable. Wanna go try that new restaurant in the Short North? Just go then! Just do it! (Lol.Go Nike!)
5. Gone are the days of endless hookups and aimless relationships. You've finally found yourself a mature, suitable partner. Or you've found peace with being single.
6. Exercise is something you look forward to. Or maybe not. But you're in a routine and you've learned to take care of your body.
7. You have started calling your parents because you want to, not because you have to. Now that you are a real person, you could use some advice from some people who have been keepin' it real for a while now.
8. There is no more peer pressure to you with people you don't really care for. You have learned to say no to invitations because you know that real friends will still be your friends even if you don't go out with them all the time.
9. You have learned to shop responsibly. No more impulse buys and crazy purchases with that new credit card. You've gotten past that phase, and now that you're paying the bills, you know that a shiny new pair of Michael Kors shoes is not reasonable, because you have other ones that work just as fine.
10. You don't feel the need to keep up with social appearances. Unlike high school or some of your college days, there is no social scene that you're obligated to attend. You stay home and watch TV instead. (Yay for being an adult!)
11. Grocery shopping is a thing. Your fridge is stocked (usually) and you can cook by yourself. No more copping out by ordering takeout every night. You got this, bb!
12. You have finally swallowed that pride of yours and sucked it up in order to make your own doctor's appointment. As horrible as it was to pick up you phone and call the doctor's office receptionist, you did it. Plus, you had no help from your mom. Whoa, big steps!
13. Gone are the days of eating ice cream and ramen noodles for dinner. You have upgraded to a dinner of chicken and broccoli. That you made yourself! Wahoo! (But, if you got it at Whole Foods, that is totally a real person move, too!)
14. Your closet is no longer filled with entirely sweats. You now have some organization in your life. There are separate sections now for work clothes and jchillin' clothes. (Hi, shack shirts!)
15. You ARE ready for this! You want to take on the real world and be awesome! Here is to finally getting all of your stuff together! Go you!
