15 Reasons To Get Excited For Le-Laf Week

Le-Laf week, every Lehigh student’s favorite time of year, is quickly approaching. The rivalry held between Lehigh and Lafayette is one that holds the record for the most-played college football rivalry in NCAA history. (The winner’s bragging rights earned each year also contributes to the fact that it is also one of the most trash-talked rivalries in college football.) That being said, the entire week leading up to the infamous game is one Lehigh students know and love all too well. Filled with tradition, spirit, and nonstop fun, it’s a week that many remember (or not) for years to come. After all, there is no victory sweeter than a victory over Lafayette. Haven’t experienced Le-Laf for yourself yet? Take a look at some of the highlights to expect.

1. When you realize the week is almost here and have the opportunity to go out for ten consecutive days.

2. So you spend the last night before Le-Laf week attempting to get all of your work done.

3. The first moment you hear the Marching 97 playing fight songs for the Eco Flame outside, you hope they’re coming into your classroom.

4. When the Marching 97 does barge into your classroom and your professor just sits off to the side, waiting for the debauchery to finish.

5. Seeing Lehigh gear everywhere on campus.

6. Checking your calendar and seeing that you have a 4 o'clock scheduled during Le-Laf week.

7. When you realize that your professor scheduled the exam for a Friday.

8. Yet you choose to maximize your Le-Laf week experience and go out anyway.

9. Screaming “F*CK LAFAYETTE” at the top of your lungs at any given moment, knowing that you will be supported by everyone else in the room.

10. Signing up for the Turkey Trot, then instantly regretting it when you remember the 2.4 miles are entirely uphill.

11. Watching bed races commence down on the front lawn.

12. Knowing that the flyers for bed races are substantially punnier than the actual event.

13. The game is another excuse to go buy that quarter-zip you’ve been eyeing up at the bookstore.

14. When your alarm goes off at 8 a.m. the morning of the game and you jump out of bed, throwing on every article of Lehigh gear you own.

15. Arriving at the stadium and seeing the seats packed with students and alumni, joining together for the common goal: to beat Lafayette.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
