Being a single mother can be hard. I know because I watched my mom do it. First, she did it with my brother, who is 13 years older than me; then she did it all over again with me. She didn't choose it, as most single mothers don't or even would. But to hear her tell it, she wouldn't change it for anything. She got pretty lucky since both my brother and I were pretty easy kids. Neither one of us ever wanted anything but to please her and make her proud of us. But what she may not realize is how proud I am of her. She raised two pretty amazing humans if I do say so myself. And she did it with grace.

Lorelai and Rory Gilmore's relationship is a perfect example of what it is like to grow up with a single mother. There is never a dull moment. Being a single parent certainly has it's bad days, but it's the good days that really matter the most. My mom has taught me what it means to be human, and I couldn't be more thankful for that. My mom is my best friend and these are just a few reasons why.

1. She thinks life shouldn't be serious 100% of the time.

She has taught me that any situation can be made a little bit more fun, no matter how serious or crappy it seems. Life is about living, and sometimes that means making a funny face across a crowded room.

2. When it comes to dating, she knows what she's talking about.

She has never been wrong about a single dating situation I've been in. In fact, she's already been in them herself at some point. Her advice has never failed me.

3. She is always down to go look at puppies.

So what if we already have 2 dogs at home? If there's an adoption at Petco, let's go check it out!

4. She will always have your back, no matter what.

She may tell you about yourself in private, but she will still have your back. You are her baby and no one puts her baby in the corner.

5. She just gets you. Probably because you are just like her.

She knew that you wanted those boots for your birthday and you didn't ever even tell her. She just knew, because she literally knows everything and you are her miniature.

6. You have the same sense of humor.

You can say things to her that you find funny that you probably shouldn't say to anyone besides her.

7. Binge watching shows and movies is never a question.

Who doesn't like to pile up in the bed with too much food and T.V.?

8. She has pretty great dance moves.

And of course, she taught you all of them.

9. She completely understands what it means to be a teenager because she hasn't forgotten.

She knows how it feels to go on that first date. She understands all the weird little insecurities you have because she had them once too. Now she gets to teach you that you are amazing no matter what.

10. Sometimes she does the funniest things you've ever seen or heard in your life.

Actually, she's probably the funniest person you know.

11. She's not afraid to admit her failures.

Just like you, she is still learning all about this thing called life. So when she flubs a little, she laughs and just tries to move on. Her awesome attitude has taught you to laugh and keep going too.

12. It's totally okay to make fun of each other.

If we didn't laugh, then what would be the point?

13. She is fierce.

She isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

14. She is woman hear her roar!

She has been through hell and back. She has taught you to be the strongest woman you can possible be. Never let anyone walk all over you because she certainly doesn't.

15. And of course, she does wonderful at the most important job she has.

She's the greatest mom in the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
