With the 2016 Rio Olympic Games fully underway and our favorite athletes competing for gold, it's time to see how much you really know about the summer Olympic Games.

1. Ancient Olympic Games began in 776 B.C.

2. Only individual events were allowed in the Ancient Olympics, no team events.

3. The first modern Olympics were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece.

4. The games used to span over months while today they only last 16 days.

5. Figure Skating and Ice Hockey were originally part of the summer Olympics.

6. In the 1900 Paris games, Margaret Abbott was the first American female to place first in an Olympic event, and she didn't even know she was competing.

7. The modern Olympic flame was introduced by Hitler and Carl Diem at the 1936 Berlin games.

8. Silver medals used to be given to first place.

9. A sport must be participated by men in 75 countries and on four continents and by women in 40 countries and on three continents for it to be included in the Olympic Games.

10. The only continents that have not hosted the Olympics are Africa and Antartica.

11. Building modern Olympic stadiums costs upwards of $800 million.

12. Forty-five percent of the athletes participating in the 2016 Rio Games are women.

13. Gold medals have not been solid gold since 1912, dropping their worth form $1.5 million to $650.

14. The U.S. has won 980 gold medals, which is twice as many as any other nation.

15. In the opening ceremonies, Greece always goes first and the hosting country goes last, all the rest are in alphabetical order.
