12 Perks of Being the Middle Child
Hello, my name is Olivia (“Hi Olivia”) and I have been living with Middle-Child Syndrome for 10 years now. Although it is not always fun to be in the middle, there are some perks that I have learned.
1.If you like your older siblings clothes, you will have them someday
Everyone wants what they do not have and that still applies when it is your sibling. I always found myself admiring my sisters clothes and the majority of the time, when she decided to update her closet, my closet was filled with new (to me at least) clothes.
2. You can fly under the radar
There is always a certain amount of pressure that lies on the oldest and youngest sibling in the household. In my case, grades and athleticism were the strong points of my siblings and I was able to be good, but not great at both without any pressure of being the best because thats what my siblings were there for.
3. You are the person your parents vent to about your other siblings
Parents always seem to rely on the middle child to be there when they need to vent about how opinionated their other children are. I always love being the go-to-kid for those situations because I am both safe from my parents' wrath and I get dirt to hold against my siblings.
4. You are the best at sharing
Sharing comes naturally to the middle child. As the middle child you know that what is yours is also your siblings', and what is your siblings' is not yours now but eventually will be when they are done with it.
5. You can always be there to lighten up the mood
I have found that every middle child has a sense of humor. I have always been the first person to poke fun of myself or use sarcasm to make any situation just a little brighter.
6. You can always be the Underdog
As a middle child, you are always the underdog. I believe this is a huge perk because no matter what movie you watch you are able to relate to at least one character and identify yourself as that character until the next hit comes out.
7. Exaggeration is one of your best qualities
Fighting for the attention of your parents is a natural symptom of Middle-Child Syndrome. The go-to way of doing this is by exaggerating every story just enough to show your parents how awesome their middle-child truly is.
8. Creativity runs through your veins
I’ve noticed that a large amount of middle children are extremely creative in many different ways. It seems as if middle children have a natural tendency of using the right side of their brain which is the side that allows you to be creative and intuitive.
9. You are an amazing listener
Although this goes along with number 3, a middle child is willing to listen to anyone who just needs to vent. The middle child is the shoulder to cry on for anyone who may need it.
10. You have the go-with-the-flow attitude
As a middle child, you learn that you will always have to go-with-the-flow and that is perfectly fine with you. Even though middle children are not the best decision makers, allowing yourself to not get hung up on things will be a lifesaver in the future.
11. You can get away with murder
First of all, I just want to say that is a figure of speech and murder is not acceptable no matter what order you were born in. What I mean is so much attention is often laid on the oldest and youngest, that as a middle child you are free to be (within reason) who you are.
12. You get to be an older and younger sibling
My favorite part of being a middle child is having an older and younger sibling. This means I am able to have a sibling who protects me while I am also able to be protective over my youngest sibling.
Although being a middle child is not always rainbows and smiles, I would not change it for the world. Middle children rule the world.
