12 Gestures That Are Oddly Romantic In Modern Dating

Dating has gone from a step-by-step process of date-relationship-sex, to sex-date-relationship. Things have changed completely, some for the better, some for the worse. The modern dating culture is very weird in the way that you woo the person that you are interested in. Here are 12 things in modern dating culture that may seem weird, but are now the norm for romance.

1. Being each other's best friend on Snapchat.

When you see the red heart next to their name, it is oddly flattering. It means they don't snapchat anybody more than you and vice-versa. Then if you have a yellow heart, that means you've been each other's best friend for two weeks.

2. When they tag you in a meme on Instagram.

When they're scrolling through their news feed and see a meme, and they think of you and laugh, so they tag you. Seeing that is a reminder that they are thinking about you.

3. Not having your phone during dinner.

Even though this shouldn't be a second thought, it actually is an issue in modern dating culture. Unfortunately, putting the phone down is an overly-thought, rarely done thing. It is a blessing to have a face-to-face conversation rather than looking at your phones the entire time.

4. Changing your relationship status on Facebook.

This next step is rare, but shows your commitment to each other. It also claims territory.

5. Texting you all day, every day.

Knowing somebody makes time to talk to you means a lot. Keeping in constant communication with something as instant as texting is oddly important to modern relationships. Even if you're not talking about anything important, we still strive for the constant contact.

6. Actually going on a date.

It is so rare that you don't just sit together on the couch watching Netflix. So it's a huge gesture to want to go on a date.

7. Deleting the dating profile.

When we meet somebody, the likelihood of them being on a dating profile is pretty high. When they delete that profile for you, that's when it's getting serious.

8. Making "set plans".

So often, we are going minute-to-minute and planning on a whim. It is so flattering to have somebody plan ahead and set aside time for you.

9. Having read receipts on.

As weird as it is, we like talking to somebody with their read receipts on much more than somebody without. We like seeing whether we are being ignored, and we bank on it as a form of trust.

10. Liking each other's photos.

If you are talking to somebody, you better be liking every selfie that they post! It is a rite of passage to the relationship.

11. Being their #womancrushwednesday or #mancrushmonday.

When they are ready to announce you and admit that they are interested in you, being their #womancrushwednesday or #mancrushmonday is a flattering post.

12. Making their profile/cover photo.

When you have finally made the cut to be in the profile/cover photo, thats how you know that you have really made it, and it's actually serious. They are willing to show you off to the world, and admit your relationship.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
