Christmas is only a month and a half away! If you are anything like me, you have already begun to think of your Christmas wish list (starting the day after last Christmas actually). Even though it is technically still fall, there are signs of Christmastime coming. You can feel it in the cold air. You can smell it in your warm coffee. You can see it around campus. Christmas is a time to celebrate, to relax, and to give. There are many great things associated with this special time, and here is a list of twelve of my personal favorite things about Christmas:
1. Christmas lights
There are few sights more beautiful than a house decorated with beautiful lights gleaming outside in the dark night sky. Many houses now synchronize their Christmas lights with music or a radio station creating not only a wonderful scene, but a magical memory.
2. Christmas weather
You never know what the weather is going to be like on Christmas Day! If you are lucky, or live in Ohio, the clouds might let loose and there will be snow! But most likely, if you live in Texas or Oklahoma...maybe buying some fake snow will be beneficial.
3. Christmas sweaters
If you haven't been to an ugly Christmas sweater party yet, you haven't lived. These types of sweaters are making a comeback. I was at Walmart the other day, and saw a whole display of ugly Christmas sweaters. You can also purchase supplies to create your own sweater at Hastings!
4. Christmas movies
ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas will start soon so gather your blankets and popcorn! Christmas movies are a huge part of the season and there are so many to choose from. There are so many classics such as "Home Alone," "A Charlie Brown Christmas," and "Elf." You are sure to be in for a real treat if you watch Christmas movies.
5. Christmas sales
Christmas celebrations often include gifts of some kind, but this does not mean you have to drain your bank account. There are numerous sales at Christmas time, so be sure to be on the look out for great discounts. If Black Friday isn't your thing, check out Cyber Monday. Many companies offer sales all throughout the season too!
6. Christmas parties
Remember the ugly Christmas sweaters I mentioned earlier? This is the time to pull it out and wear it with pride! Or if the party requires an outfit that is a little dressier, I suggest to go with red or green, the colors of Christmas. Have fun Christmas partying it up, but always be safe and remember anyone can be recording your wild dance moves!
7. Christmas music
Haters gonna hate, but I believe Christmas music is great. (Rhyme?) These tunes will get stuck in your head but just go with it. The Christmas music is one of my favorite things about this holiday. I mean, what other holidays have an endless amount of songs written about them?
8. Christmas break
Hooray! We have survived fall semester final exams! We can finally relax and catch up on some of our sleep...or run around our house.
9. Christmas decorations
So many pretty colors, lights, ornaments, trees, stockings, glitter, sparkles, shiny things. Need I say more?
10. Christmas cheer
I have noticed that everyone is much more cheerful around the holiday seasons. If you aren't excited for Christmas, then I guess you are a Grinch or a Scrooge? If you have some of these less excited people in your life, remember the advice from Elf: The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear. (#7).
11. Christmas gingerbread houses
Last year, my boyfriend and I had did not build a gingerbread house. Instead we built the best gingerbread Elsa castle there ever was! Making gingerbread houses can be difficult, but this tradition is a fun activity to showcase your creative thinking and decorating skills. Hint: superglue the gingerbread house parts together and then add the icing for decoration.
12. Christmas time with family and friends
The best part of Christmas break is being home with you family and friends. You are reunited for a few sweet weeks so make the most of it! Your pets will also be excited to see you so give them some extra love. Remember that you would not be where you are now without your loved ones. Family is one of the greatest gifts we were given and we should celebrate them everyday.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!!
