When you live in a town for a long time, you start to forget what makes it an attraction. If you live in or are from Pittsburgh, this can be especially true. Pittsburgh is one of those cities with a following. Our city is one with a great history, but when it's your town, it can be hard to appreciate. If you want to rediscover and learn to love it again, here are some things you may consider doing.
1. Visit Point State Park
The Point is a Pittsburgh landmark. It's where the three rivers meet up and it is quite a beautiful sight. The fountain makes for a beautiful backdrop for any pictures. Plus, you can walk, bike, or run right along the river!
2. Ride the inclines
This is a must for all Pittsburghers. The inclines are pretty neat. They're kind of like a more scenic, slower-moving roller coaster. Plus, when you go in them, it's like taking a step back in time.
The "almost famous" sandwich shop got its start in the heart of Pittsburgh. The concept is often lost on out-of-towners, but for us Pittsburghers, we know this is the real deal. The sandwiches were created for truck drivers to get everything at once, so fries and coleslaw were piled on top of the sandwich. You've got to at least try it once and respect it, even if you're not a fan.
The Ducky Tours are a lot of fun. They give you a whole new perspective on the city as you ride around in a car that's also a boat! You'll be quacking your way through the city, and if you're lucky, you might even get to drive the boat on the water. Quack! Quack!
This is best place to go if you want a good look at the city. You can see almost the entire city from up there. From the Point to the bridges, you'll truly see the best of the city!
Pittsburgh is full of hidden treasures, and this is definitely one of them! Be sure to go to the shops and also try the food at places like Wholey's. You won't be disappointed!
Market Square has a small town feel to it. There are lots of local businesses and restaurants. It seems as though it is hidden within the city. Definitely a gem to check out!
8. Spend the day at Kennywood
If you are more of a thrill-seeker, take a short drive out to Kennywood. There are tons of different rides and games, and really it's an awesome amusement park. You'll get a mix of old and new rides, so make sure you ride them all!
9. Tour the stadiums or go to a game
There's no doubting that Pittsburgh loves its sports teams. If you ever watch the news, no matter the season, at least once in the newscast you will hear something about the Steelers, Pirates, or Penguins. Take the day and tour Heinz FIeld, PNC Park, or Consol Energy Center. Better yet, get some tickets and go to a game. Definitely a great time!
10. Explore Phipps Conservatory
For your inner nature lover, take a day and explore Phipps Conservatory in Schenley Park. There are beautiful flowers and colors to see. Plus, if it's Christmas time, they have an awesome lights display!
11. Flock Around the National Aviary
Pittsburgh is home to the National Aviary. Go ahead and spend the day with the birds! You'll see some cool sights and even learn some new things.
