Even though most of us complain about being in school or just simply about the winter months, every time summer rolls around we tend to complain even more because there is nothing to do. You see pictures of your friends getting engaged or married, or taking trips to beautiful beaches while you’re at home counting the imaginary sheep in your spare time. It’s a real Debbie Downer, isn’t it? Well whether you’re home alone or with another bored friend or sibling, here are some simple, inexpensive activities to try.
1. Arm/Thumb Wrestle
This is a classic time killer, or competition, whichever you’d like to use it for. It’s pretty self explanatory on what to do.
2. Draw a letter on someone’s back with your finger and see if they can guess what it is
Any guessing games are on the table when it comes to boredom, but this is a great one to do with a partner. It may seem simple and easy, but from past experience it’s harder to guess than you’d think. Try it out!
3. Play “I Spy”
I was driving down the road with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago, and during a line of silence he randomly said, “I spy something green.” I laughed because it was so random, but whether you’re driving down the road or sitting in your living room with a friend or family member, this game is sure to cure your boredom for a little while.
4. Count Your Change
This might sound really boring itself, but I promise you it’s not. Counting your change can be fun and lead you to actually having money. Buy some coin rollers at the store and collect your change up. You’ll be surprised at how much you can save up and put in the bank.
5. Tell a story, taking turns one sentence at a time
Sitting around a campfire with a few friends? Tell a scary or funny story using this technique.
6. Play the “Quiet Game”
Hanging out with little kids? Make them play the quiet game with you and see who can be quiet for the longest amount of time.
7. Listen To Music
Blast some of your favorite music and dance around like no one’s watching, because literally no one is watching! Sing it at the top of your lungs!
8. Draw A Picture/Color
With adult coloring books on the market there’s no reason that you can’t color. Even kids coloring books, or printing coloring pages off online can be a calm and relaxing activity.
9. Count the number of vehicles that drive by
You must really be bored to do this, but either way it’s something to do! Sit by your front window and count how many cars go by per minute.
10. Learn a foreign language online
There are many websites and phone apps that will teach you a foreign language. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up going somewhere that will need the language someday.
11. Go for a walk/run/bike ride
Not only is exercising healthy for your body, but also healthy for your soul. You’ll be a lot happier than if you were to sit on the couch all day. Riding a bike or walking doesn’t even have to be considered your exercise, but rather a relaxing pastime as you become one with the nature around you.
