No one gets you better than your little sister. She is your best friend, confidante, encourager, partner in crime and one of the biggest blessings in your life. You are so, so incredibly thankful for her and don't tell her that enough. Here are 11 things to thank her for -- after all, she deserves all the thanks in the world.
1. For accepting you
She is one of the few people you can truly be yourself around. She sees every flaw, quirk and imperfection you may have and fiercely loves you anyway. She hears your loud, off-key singing in the car and chooses to sing along. When you've had "one of those days" and eat ice cream straight out of the carton, she grabs a spoon and joins you. You can belly laugh, ugly cry and burp around her knowing she will never judge you. For this, you are forever grateful.
2. For bringing joy to your childhood
Sure, being an only child had its perks, but your childhood would not have been the same without your little sister. You were never bored nor lonely because you always had her as a playmate. You two spent many fun-filled hours pretending that the floor was lava, making Barbie clothes out of toilet paper and playing dress-up. There was never a dull moment when you had her by your side.
3. For being your biggest fan
She has always been there at your basketball games, soccer matches and dance recitals cheering you on. Even if you were just a "bench-warmer," you were the star player in her eyes. That support has encouraged you to work hard and always do your best in everything you do in life.
4. For teaching you responsibility
Since the day you brought her home, you have felt a strong sense of responsibility for her. You are her protector, and you take that job very seriously. You always try to make good choices in your life, because you know she looks to you as a role model. She has given you a glimpse into motherhood and has matured you beyond your years.
5. For boosting your self-confidence
Even during your awkward middle school years when you had a mouth full of braces and thought you were going to marry a member of a boy band, she looked up to you. She steals your clothes regardless of how unfashionable you may think they are. Knowing she believes in you has helped you in moments when you have not always believed in yourself.
6. For sharing the same sense of humor
She tells the funniest stories ever and is one of the few people that can make you laugh so hard you cry. She is your go-to person when you want to make fun of your crazy family. You two share a language of your own made up of inside jokes, movie quotes and a plethora of sarcasm.
7. For your late-night life talks
Another perk of having a little sister is the many slumber parties you two have. These typically involve lots of junk food, laughter and inevitably end up in life talks. From life goals to boys to politics, you guys have talked about it all. She is wise beyond her years and has taught you so much about life during these talks.
8. For being the Rachel to your Monica (or vice versa)
Even though you two have your differences, you know that you will always have each other's backs. Life may have its ups and downs, but it is comforting knowing she will “always be there for you.”
9. For being your partner in crime
She knows your deepest, darkest secrets and your most embarrassing stories. She is extremely trustworthy and knows the phrase, "Don't tell Mom!" by heart. There is no one else you'd rather go on crazy adventures with.
10. For never drifting apart
Regardless of whether you live across the hall or hours away from each other, you always manage to stay close. Distance and time spent apart is no match for a relationship as strong as yours.
11. For being your life-long best friend
OK, this is partly because she is stuck with you, but also because of your close bond. Friends may come and go, but sisters are forever. She will be the aunt to your children, the maid of honor in your wedding and your life-long best friend. You are so incredibly thankful that she is in your life and should tell her that every single day. So here's to a little sister who is so very much loved and appreciated.
