For those of you who go to school in the north, you are aware of how terribly cold the winter up here can get. Although the winter weather so far hasn't been too bad, we still have many weeks ahead of us. However, as each wretched day goes by, we get more and more used to the frigid weather and have even somehow learned to cope with it.
1. Receiving Snapchats from your friends at southern schools.
We get it, you go to school where it is constantly an enjoyable temperature. You are #blessed.
2. The excitement behind snow days.
Waking up to an email titled "Curtailed Operations" might just be the best feeling in the world. Sledding as a college student might even be more fun than it ever was when you were younger.
3. Snow "darties".
Whether you call them dagers, darties, or just plain old day-parties, students at northern schools know exactly what I am talking about when I mention "snow darties". A day drink that takes place during a snow day. Everyone's decked out head-to-toe in snow pants, parkas, hats and mittens, and maybe even a pair of ski goggles. Definitely one of the highlights associated with going to university in the north.
4. Walking to class when the temperature outside is in the negatives.
Most girls can confirm that wet hair will freeze instantly as you step outside into temperatures that are below 32ºF. Walking to 8 a.m.'s in temperatures that are below 0ºF is easily the harshest wake up call one can receive.
5. "Frackets".
Jackets that one would not care about losing at a frat party, house party, or bar. Better known as frackets. Frackets are essential at northern schools.
6. Hibernation.
Once the cold weather starts to hit, you notice yourself falling into a deep hibernation only leaving your room to eat and occasionally see your friends.
7. Sporting events.
Winter sporting events like hockey games begin to take up most of the spirit at your school.
8. A constantly expanding sweater collection.
Sweaters become essential in one's wardrobe during the colder seasons. There's always a way to justify buying a new sweater.
9. The undeniable desire to go somewhere warm for Spring Break.
To most college students, it seems unimaginable to not get away from the cold for one week during the month of March. Cancun, Panama City Beach and Punta Cana are all examples of prime destinations for college students.
10. Appearing as a marshmallow in your winter gear.
Most students invest in long parkas for the colder winter months. They are a necessity for students who walk across campus all day from class to class. Sadly, parkas are not the most flattering piece of apparel, but they are definitely able to keep you warm.
11. The excitement that hits when Spring has sprung.
After a cold long winter, it seems as if the atmosphere inside a college campus completely shifts. You can find students sitting outside in various different spots doing homework, sunbathing and honestly, a lot more smiling all around.
