11 Things I Miss About Softball

The 8 AM games are nothing like 8 AM classes.

Softball was a huge activity in my life for nearly 10 years. To this day, I still miss it. Those who have played softball know how easily you can fall in love with the sport. There is so much to miss about this rewarding game.

1. The Chants

As annoying as they were, there was nothing like hearing your teammates sing chants and cheers while you were up at bat. It always drove my adrenaline up and made me want to succeed.

2. The Smells

The smell of fresh grass and dirt made me excited to get on the field. Going to a baseball/softball field now instantly reminds me of playing and makes me so nostalgic.

3. The 8 AM games

It’s nothing like 8 AM classes. I was so excited to wake up for early games. It was always so worth it.

4. The snacks after winning

It was always exciting when your coach would say that if we won the game, they would take us for pizza or buy us ice cream. That motivated all of us girls to win!

5. The cheers from the crowd when you made a good play

Hearing your parents and all of your teammates' parents cheer for you and your team was so encouraging.

6. The friends

I made some really good friends playing softball. We were on the same team for several years and always had that similar interest of the game.

7. The coaches

I had some of the best coaches throughout my softball years. They always made me excited to play every game. They are half the reason why I grew to love the sport so much.

8. Being dirty

There was nothing like being covered in dirt from head to toe after a good game. That feeling of walking off the field with clothes that were a complete different color from when you started the game made you feel like you won, whether you really did or not.

9. The sounds

The sound of the ball hitting the bat or the ball landing perfectly in the glove was like music to my ears.

10. The adrenaline

That adrenaline rush when it was the bottom of the seventh inning, bases loaded, down by 1, and you were up at bat with a 3-2 count.

11. Having a love for the sport

Don’t get me wrong, I still love the sport just as much as I did while I was playing. Now that I don’t play anymore, I have learned to appreciate softball so much more. No matter how many years I go without playing, I will always be grateful for every moment I was able to play. Softball was such a big part of my life and I am so thankful that I was able to spend my childhood involved in the game.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
