While planning the décor for my own apartment this summer, I realized the importance of making it a home. The little things count. Buying cute accessories spiced up my apartment and made it an inviting and beautiful place to come home to. Check out my tips below. Happy reading!
1. Lighting Is Key
When you walk into your apartment after a long day on campus, you won’t want to stumble into a dark uninviting room. Invest in some lamps to spice up your living room. If you’re working on a budget, go to Target and buy a simple lamp with a white lamp shade and then add some designs with paint or cute beads to the shade.
2. Window treatments matter.
Nothing is better than natural sunlight flowing through your living room window, so why not enrich that amazing image with some curtains? Again, if you’re on a budget, try out TJ Maxx, Home Goods, or even Overstock.com. It’s worth the money to be able to enjoy your apartment.
3. A couch is incomplete without it’s throws.
Target has bundled sets of adorable matching throw pillows that are perfect to spice up a room. Get a couple snuggly throw blankets to match and you’re all set. You’ll be surprised how much more incredible your couch will feel when it’s dressed to the nines in its throws.
4. Plants. Plants. Plants.
Real plants can be time consuming to take care of even though they smell nicer and deliver a better ambiance. However, real plants are always a good decorative option for folks on the go. They can look great if presented in the right way. You can paint old glass soda bottles and stick some small flowers inside.
5. What’s better than a home that smells like the beach?
Add some candles or plug-in air fresheners to your bedroom, living room and bathroom. Walking into a room with a fresh scent feels like a millions bucks. You will feel cleaner, happier and healthier in no time!
6. Everyone needs a furry friend.
A healthy dose of love from a dog or cat of your own might be just what you need after a stressful college day. Having to be responsible for someone other than yourself will surely hold you more accountable and make you a better person. Plus, animals always create a more inviting space for company.
7. Pamper your paws.
Rugs may seem like an unnecessary expense, but this is not the case. A soft cushiony adorable rug should welcome your feet when you sit down on the couch to watch your favorite movie. Check out Home Goods to find a wide selection of rugs for a good price.
8. Make your apartment YOURS.
Add a few cool posters or other accessories of your favorite interests! Sometimes you need a reminder of your favorite things to brighten your day. If you want to save some money, head over to a craft store or Target/Walmart to get paint and canvases. You might not be the most creative one in the bunch, but everyone can craft!
9. Themes are the key to all.
When you choose a theme whether it’s a color scheme or another idea, it makes the rest of the apartment fall into place. My apartment is beached themed and it is so calming and relaxing. The color scheme and décor immediately worked itself out when we thought of the theme.
10. Learn to cook.
You’ve already learned to craft, why not domesticate yourself more? Nothing is more inviting than a delicious home cooked meal in your perfectly decorated apartment.
11. Get to know your neighbors.
Once you have a beautiful apartment, why not share it? Make great friends with your neighbors and bring life to your perfect apartment with company. You could even host a dinner with your neighbors once a week now that you know how to cookJ Good luck!
