In the last decade or so, I've noticed that the United States has become too concerned with being politically correct and equal. It was polite at first, but now it has gone too far.
Yes, I support gender equality and freedom of religion, but I do not support making the citizens of the United States boring copies of one another. I remember learning about diversity in elementary school. My principal had told us to look around and see if there was someone exactly like us, who played all the same sports, had all the same beliefs, and liked all the same foods. Of course, there wasn’t anybody who had the same exact lives or personalities, nobody could find a duplicate of themselves. She then explained how if we were all the same, the world would be a very boring place.
It was that day that I learned that being different is not only OK, but being different is actually good. However, I believe we all should apply this to life today.
Authorities are cracking down on public expressions of the Christian faith all over the nation, but atheists in New York City can post offensive billboards in Time Square. Remember the 2012 holiday season that showed a picture of Jesus on the cross underneath a picture of Santa with the tagline: “Keep the Merry! Dump the Myth"?

We are "one nation under God" the last time I checked, yet it is practically forbidden to mention God in schools. There is no longer religion in school because it is considered unconstitutional. I understand that we are a growing diverse nation, but that is no reason to take God out of it. People are offended because they don’t have the same beliefs? It is your choice to live here, if you don’t like something about the U.S., I kindly suggest you leave. I’m not forcing religion on you, but I sure am keeping mine. You may think that I’m offensive, but that’s OK, I will still be able to sleep at night.
For a nation that tries to be so politically correct, we need to stop being racist and discriminatory when people disobey the law. For some reason, if a black man commits a crime, people assume all black men are criminals. Well, let’s say there’s a shooting by a Muslim man, all Muslims are suddenly considered dangerous. Also, the funny (I say funny, but I actually mean quite the opposite) part about this is if a white Christian man kills people in a shooting, people just say, “oh, he was crazy, no other white Christians are like that.” This is not how this works; this is not how any of this should work. It sickens me just thinking about it.
Yes, crime happens, people snap, and tragedies are caused by various kinds of people. However, if you could stop pairing my black classmate who is an aspiring doctor with a 4.0 GPA into a category with a criminal because of their shared skin color, I would greatly appreciate it.
In conclusion, if people could please simply stop judging a book by its cover and learn to enjoy each others differences and foundations of this country, instead of forcing beliefs on each other, I think then we would live in a happier place. Thank you.
