One of the best parts about coming home for the holidays is spending time with family.

No matter the circumstances the holidays always bring families together, I mean have you seen Hallmark movies? Spending time with your family can be as simple as watching your favorite show with your dad or chatting with your mom. It’s always nice to take a moment to reconnect with your loved ones.

When you’re in college, you make new friends and its hard to stay connected with the old ones especially if you're far away. Take advantage of this break and go grab coffee or dinner. Chances are they want to reconnect with you too so pick up your phone and send them a text!

Not that you haven’t already done this enough while in college, but now you can do it without fear of forgetting about a paper or turning an assignment in late because you’re too caught up in Stranger Things.

It's holiday season! Take a break and spread some cheer by wrapping presents for those close to you. Feel free to put on the holiday jams and grab that clear tape. Afterwards, you can get the immense satisfaction of seeing the smile light up on someone’s face once you give them the present!

Your mom sent you constant pictures and videos of him/her. You Facetimed once a week, and now you get the chance to see him/her in person! Yes, I’m talking about your….. dog. The poor thing missed you so much, so go outside and take them for a walk. You’ll get some fresh air and quality time with them and they’ll be the happiest pooches on the planet.

Just sit back, relax and do nothing. Absolutely nothing. You deserve it. Just make sure to move every once in a while, so your family knows you’re still breathing.

While cooking isn’t a source of relaxation for all of us, some find ease in the heating of a metal pan. And more to you! Cooking can be a great way to relieve stress, get your mind off things, and get something delicious in your tummy. Not only that but it’s a great way to spend time with others. Have a dinner date with your significant other or a cooking session with friends.

Some of us are natural readers, others not so much. For all of you who enjoy a good book try and make it out to your local library this week. It's cheap on your pockets and a great way to keep your mind active while on break. Reading is a great way to escape into a new world and learn while you’re doing it.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, you can’t deny that seeing thousands of shiny lights on everyone’s houses makes you smile. December is all about getting into the holiday spirit so spread the cheer and put up some decorations! It’s a great way to get out of your head and focus on something else and its fun to see the final project come together!

Don’t Think About School

Whatever you do, just don’t think about school during winter break. You deserve some time off from the head throbbing mess of planning out how to figure out how to balance homework, class, social life, sleep and being healthy (eh the last one is a maybe).

Try and keep your thoughts astray from anything school related for a least two weeks, so you can allow yourself to focus on more important things like family and friends. Remember, you need to take a break every once in a while. So, have a great winter break and make the most of it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
