For my entire life, Sundays have been spent on the couch watching football for hours on end. Whether it's watching the Giants blow a fourth quarter lead again, or rooting for the Cowboys to lose, I've always had a pretty intense passion for football. Now that I go to a college that's a huge football school, it takes up my whole weekend (not that I mind). And believe it or not, I actually know what's going on, and I care. A lot. Unfortunately, being a girl means people think I'm clueless when it comes to the sport, and I constantly have to prove them wrong.
1. The face guys make when you say you like football almost always looks like this.
2. The look you get when you tell them you play fantasy football? Even worse (especially when you're good at it).
3. Their reaction when you call a play correctly is insulting.
4. When they try to quiz you on rules but you know all of them (dude, it isn't that hard)
5. How you feel when they think not knowing who coached the 1957 Browns (or something even more irrelevant) means you know nothing about football.
6. And when you know more about football than a guy (God forbid), their world is turned upside down
7. When you watch a game with guys and you get mansplained the entire time.
Thanks Brad, but I do know what a two-point conversion is. Its kind of self-explanatory.
8. Your futile attempts to escape a response that starts with, "Oh yeah? Well, then what year..."
9. Watching a game and being asked if you understood what just happened after every play.
10. Knowing you're right about a stat but being ignored because they think they know better than you.
So to all my girls out there who share my love for America's sport, keep on cheering for your favorite team, and keep making guys look dumb for doubting you--just like OBJ did to Brandon Carr (as if I could leave this catch out of a football article).
