You wake up and already the sound of your alarm makes you want to throw something at the wall. I regret to inform you that this is a sign you’re going to have a rough day. Wait a second, don’t panic, I am here to share with you from my personal experience of quite terrible days, how to turn a bad day into a fabulous one!
Step One:
Eat a healthy breakfast. One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is a wheat mini bagel toasted with avocado. Instead of using butter or cream cheese, the avocado is a healthier and (in my opinion) tastier option.
Step Two:
Make a list before you leave your house of all the things you need to accomplish that day. I find that being organized helps to relieve stress! If you have a list of things you need to do, you can visualize this list, making your day run smoothly and more efficient.
Step Three:
Listen to your favorite radio channel on the way to work/school. Music is a magical form of art that speaks to people in many different ways. Simply listening to a song that triggers happiness can change your mood from sad to rad!
Step Four:
Stay hydrated! Bringing a bottle of water with you throughout your day will keep your body from feeling sluggish and tired. A sluggish you is a cranky you!!
Step Five:
Call your mom or dad. Every time I feel down about something, whether it is about school, friends, anxiety, or even for no reason at all, I go straight to my mom or dad. Mothers and fathers just seem to know exactly what to say. I’m not sure how they do it, but parents are truly the greatest.
Step Six:
Take a 30-minute nap. Sometimes throughout your day you need a little refresher. Taking a 30-minute nap can be just the thing to put back the spring in your step.
Step Seven:
Do something kind for someone else. When you give someone a compliment or buy them a coffee or give them some encouraging words not only will you make someone else’s day, but you will also feel pretty good yourself. Give it a try!
Step Eight:
Work out for 45 minutes! Exerting energy helps to relieve stress and sometimes everyone could use a good sweat. It helps to release some negative energy in an effective and healthy manner. Take a friend and go burn off some toxins! You will feel great!
Step Nine:
Write in a journal. Sometimes writing down how you feel can make you feel a whole lot happier! Personally, I enjoy writing music as a way to release my feelings. You can write whatever comes to mind, whether it’s words to describe how you feel, things that inspire you, goals that you are working toward, or anything else! Writing them down gets it off your chest, easing your mind.
Step Ten:
Treat yourself! You work so hard every day whether you go to work, school, or complete any other daily strenuous activities. You deserve a treat. Have a big bowl of ice cream or go buy that handbag you have been eyeing at the mall or even shamelessly binge watch your favorite show on Netflix. Whatever it may be, you deserve it!
Caution: These steps come from personal experience. I hope they cure your bad days as efficiently as they have cured mine. This is Jenny signing out. Swoooosh.
