Kiss "bored" goodbye!

10 Ways To Combat Summer Boredom

I’ve got a little case of the post-college blues. I went from a hyper-active life at school where I had a hectic, overflowing schedule to suddenly having a whole lot of time to do… whatever. At school, I was probably never in my room for more than two hours at a time other than when I went to sleep! What the heck am I supposed to do with three or more hours at home? I am loving spending time with my friends and family, but it's those hours when I'm home alone that I crave that super busy nonstop lifestyle I got so used to! I thought some downtime would be a welcome break from my usual busy craziness, but lately I’ve been so bored.

Well, guess what? I hate the word “bored.” And I have let myself fall into the soul-sucking, energy-draining bored trap. Well, I am taking a stand against bored! I refuse to succumb to bored-ness! I have decided to compile a little summer bucket list for when the dreaded bored strikes. It is time to fight back! Combat the boredom!

1. Take a hike.

There are so many parks in my area and I rarely use them! This must change!

2. Cook.

My Pinterest boards are exploding with loads and loads of glorious recipes I want to try!

3. Get artsy.

Another thing that isn’t lacking on those good ol’ Pinterest boards -- D.I. Y. crafts! College dorm decor? Painted mugs? Fancy-smelling sugar scrubs? Sign me up!

4. Volunteer.

Find a cause and get active!

5. Finally unpack my stuff from college.

It never ends. It’s time to stop saying “I’ll get around to it eventually”!

6. Go through and organize old high school/middle school/elementary school junk.

So many things have accumulated and piled up in my room over the years. I’m a major hoarder, and while it’s hard to kiss the past goodbye, it must be done!

7. Try to learn a language.

I’ve been meaning to download the Duolingo app forever. What better time than now?

8. Go to the beach.

I am lucky enough to live a short drive from the beach! What a wonderful thing! So it's not perfect beach weather yet -- who cares? It's so nice to take a walk on the beach and feel your toes in the sand.

9. Practice an instrument.

I’ve had a keyboard in my room for years and have never really learned to play it. I’m determined.

10. Journal.

Writing down your thoughts is a great way to get to know yourself better and clear your mind.

Why am I sitting on the couch endlessly taking Buzzfeed quizzes and watching a marathon of “Say Yes to the Dress” when a whole world of exciting things to do lies before me? Bored be gone!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
