Do you remember the lovely chemical spill?

Whether you're currently still enrolled at Absegami High School, or you are an Alumni, we all have particular events or things that come to mind when we think of good ole Gami. Some of it may be bad, good, funny, or a little bit of all three, but when it comes down to it, It's all things that we Braves know very well.

1. Chicken Fingers and Fries

The cafeteria doesn't serve the best food ever, but they definitely step up their game when it comes to this. I personally remember people running just so they can get in line for optimum fries and chicken fingers enjoyment. Not to mention with a side of hot sauce, honey mustard or BBQ sauce. The hallways would also linger with the scent, so everyone always knows when they're serving this in particular.

2. Fights as Entertainment

Okay, so this might just sound a little bad (or a lot), but don't lie about never wanting a fight to break out during lunch or in the hallways just so you can get a kick out of your boring day. There's nothing like eating your fresh chicken and fries while watching something go down from the comfort of your lunch table.

3. Bad Weather at Graduations

I don't know if Absegami just has bad voodoo, but how can anyone forget the numerous amounts of times that it has rained during graduation and the one time where everyone almost got swept away by a tornado like Dorothy?

4. Fitness Fridays and Volleyball

Okay, so I decided to compare and contrast the best part of gym and the worst part of gym. Fitness Fridays are quite possibly the stupidest thing that Absegami has ever come up with. I wonder how they came up with this idea, to be honest. Nobody takes this seriously, and if you do...honestly good for you because I never have. So, in a nutshell, Fitness Friday is walking several times around the gym as well as doing other physical fitness stuff that I don't really remember to see if we improve our health. It was pretty um, well, eh. Anyways, moving onto the fun stuff. GYM VOLLEYBALL. Now, some of you may be like "What? That was never fun." and I get it, it wasn't everyone's thing. to However, It would be a lie to stay that no one got super hyped and competitive about it. So for all of you who don't remember, you get assigned a team, and every team competes against each other to see who the king volleyball team is. People actually got shouted at, spiked on, and knocked the hell over. I would be lying if I said I never laughed, though.

5. Lip Dubs, Pep Rallies and Powder Puff Cheerleaders

Since this is all about school spirit, I mashed it all into one point. Lip Dubs are done about every two years (I think), and It's a whole school effort honestly. A theme is picked, and we pretty much make a lip sync video with the entire school, as well as a dance all together at the end. If you want to go down memory lane, you can do so here.

Moving onto pep rallies, aka the battle of the classes, we would pick reps of classes to compete so we can win the title of the best class. This would include a class dance as well as mini games, and honestly, it was pretty amazing. There would be a theme as well, for example, my senior year, we did decades. My class did the 80's, and it was probably one of the best dances ever in the history of pep rallies (#biased, #Classof2016).

Finally, Powder Puff is a bunch of boys dressed in skirts, doing their version of cheerleading. Iconic, truly. No more explanation needed.

6. Infamous Incidents

Now, I'm sure this brings back interesting memories. From squirrels to chemical spills, to a random man on a bike with arrows, to some more uh recent events that I don't know if I should even mention, Absegami has a tendency to have odd, weird, and sometimes scary occurrences that cause mass evactuations.

7. Mr. Absegami

A group of senior boys, a talent show, and one crown.

So basically, many male Absegami High School seniors dream of wearing the crown, but they have to put in the work. With a talent portion, a swimsuit portion, and usually a fabulousopening number.

8. Interact Chocolate

Interact club is known for their famous chocolate fundraiser, when everyone hears that they're around, they lie waking in the hallways ready to snatch.

9. Hallway Struggles

We all have hallways we do not want to venture down. Do you all remember the hallway between the back 200's and the 300 hallway? Do you know that group of people that just like to stand there, blast their music, and block everyone's way for the short passing period? Yeah, I wish I didn't either.

10. "Sponge Bob" References

I have no idea if this was just one class, or a couple classes put together, but there were running references going all around the school when it came to "Sponge Bob," especially Doodle Bob in particular (MI HOY MINOY).

Ah, Braves, our weirdness, and school spirit are pretty much undeniable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
