Whether you are an incoming freshman or a fifth year senior, sometimes you just need a fresh start. For freshman, college is an obvious fresh start. Some freshman, however, just don't know how to start fresh. Being a fifth year senior could make it seem tough to start fresh as well- so how can you make that happen? Here are 10 things you can do this year for a fresh start- no matter what your status is.
1. Become organized. Organization can look different for every person. Keeping things organized could help you find a syllabus that you need to look at to see when your exam is, or it could be as simple as finding last month’s notes. 2. Drift away from negative attitudes. If you have friends who are a negative impact on your life, let them go. Stay clear from bad influences and surround yourself with positivity.
3. Get involved. If you're a fifth year it may seem impossible to get involved with anything, but you still have a chance. Join a club. It could be something that just seems interesting or it could be related to your major. If you don't find a club that you like, look into joining a sorority or fraternity.
4. Do something you've never done before. Trying new things and getting outside of your comfort zone can really go a long way. Take a class you normally wouldn't. Study abroad. Apply for your dream internship.
5. Focus on your school work. The main reason you're in school is to receive an education. Focus on the task at hand. If you're not doing well in school then don't be afraid to seek help. There are tutors everywhere on campus, take advantage of your resources.
6. Sleep more. This one seems stupid, but if you're not getting enough sleep you will constantly feel drowsy. If you sleep then it shows you have interest in your well-being. Health needs to be your number one priority.
7. Meet new people. Sometimes meeting new people can be intimidating. Go out of your comfort zone and meet new people. Talk to people in your class, chat with the girl down the hall from your dorm or sit with someone at dinner who you've never met.
8. Put yourself in other people's shoes. I know people have said this to you since you were young, but the more you gain perspective, the more understanding you will gain. The more understanding you gain you will receive more wisdom.
9. Taking time for yourself. In college it is really easy to just hang out with friends, go to class, and study. If you don't take time for yourself then you won't be able to truly relax. Whether you wake up a little earlier in the morning to read or write, or you schedule time for yourself throughout the day, make sure you have a little bit of alone time.
10. Prioritize. Find what is most important to you and make sure that you make the most amount of time. Sometimes you need to prioritize what friends you want to spend time with, what class you need to study for the most, or what needs to be accomplished first. Either way, you can't do everything at once.
