10 Things Every Woman Should ALWAYS Have In Her Purse

Throughout my 20 years of existence, I have always been taught (and repeatedly reminded) how to act in different social settings, how to properly display my “shining” personality, lady-like manners up the ‘wazoo’ and most importantly (in my opinion) what to ALWAYS carry in your purse. Some of these items that I will be naming may not seem right for you (every woman is different of course)… But from one lady to another, I think it is quite important to always have your “secret weapons” in case of various emergencies. This includes anything from paper-cut emergencies to “uh-oh there’s my ex I just have to look good” emergencies. So here is a fun guide to ensure that you're always in tip-top shape.

1.Lipstick

You never know who the heck you will be running into. It could be anyone from your ex-lover or that bitch from work you absolutely despise. If you do not have any makeup on...NEVER FEAR LIPSTICK IS HERE! With any shade from a nude mauve to the deepest, sexiest red (my personal choice), you could never go wrong. In my opinion, lipstick is the quickest pick me up, even if you are feeling extra crappy. Just one swipe of your favorite color and you already have a spring in your step!

2. Wallet

Okay, I know what you’re thinking..” A wallet?? Seriously? Every girl knows this!” Actually it is quite the opposite. I have met or seen SO many women scrambling in their purse looking for their drivers license, debit card, coupon or even a crumpled 20 dollar bill. This is totally not classy, ladies! From an outsiders perspective, you look like an unorganized mess. In a professional environment, do you really want to be the one digging and rummaging in her purse for 5 minutes for her I.D? I think not! Please do you and everyone waiting in line at Starbucks a favor and get a nice wallet to put all of your cash, coins and cards in. You will be a much happier and organized person.

3. Small First Aid Kit

Ladies, we have our days where absolutely nothing goes right. One moment you could be confidently walking the streets of Manhattan in your new stilettos and the next you will be tripping over air, leaving you with a not-so-pretty cut on your knee. Now let’s say you didn’t have a first-aid kit on you… walking around with an opened wound in the middle of a busy city is definitely not the best thing you should be doing. You could get a serious infection and say that infection spreads…that could lead to a possible amputation (obviously that’s the worst case scenario). But now let’s say you did have that handy dandy kit on you… nothing like a little alcohol pad to sterilize and a nice Band-Aid to patch it up! You could be your own super hero. Nice, am I right?

4.Pain Reliever

This and the first-aid kit basically come hand in hand in my opinion. You never know when you might get the worst migraine of your life. Why suffer? Purchase a travel-size, or if you're super prone to headaches and various pain, jumbo size bottle of any Tylenol, Advil or aspirin will do the trick! Don’t make the mistake of not carrying this with you, because you will most definitely regret it the next time you have a giant headache coming on and you're stuck in school (or work) for the next 3 -6 hours.

5. Feminine Hygiene Products

Okay it doesn’t matter how high your heel is, how short your hair is. If you have the parts, take care of them. Your hygiene is extremely important… ESPECIALLY if your “time of the month” sneaks up on you when you least expect it. I recommend carrying at least 2 pads or tampons (whatever you like to use of course) and a small pack of flush-able and/or disposable wipes. Don’t be embarrassed, every lady goes through this at some point in their lives. You aren’t the only girl on earth to ever bleed in your nether region. Do what you gotta do girlfriend!! Case and point.

6. Phone Charger

I think we all have overestimated our phone’s battery life at one point or another. It’s important for we as women to keep our cells charged because every day ,we may run into uncomfortable situations or feel uneasy at some points. With a charged phone you absolutely cannot go wrong. It makes us feel safer and also helps with awkward social situations you may not want to be a part of. So by carrying your charger with you, you could always feel at ease. And you’ll be able to listen to Closer by Halsey and The Chainsmokers on the subway or on your walk home as many times as you want!

7. Pen and Notepad

As previously stated, life throws one curve-ball after another. You definitely do not know when you’re going to need these handy dandy items so they sure are helpful to have! Whether it’s to quickly jot down your grocery list, notes for class or leaving your number for that cute waiter/waitress. It’s a win win for everyone!

8. Mints/Gum

Just ate an onion packed burger or a garlicky pasta dish and you're about to meet someone of importance (or anyone for that matter)?? To some extent, any sort of mint or gum to help mask that hearty smell coming from your mouth will certainly save you from the embarrassment of that someone holding their breath whenever you speak.

9. Perfume

Look, we all have those days where we're running late to school or work and we're sweating astronomically. Obviously perfume could only do so much to cover up the smell of B.O, but it’s something pleasant to keep you in check. Any small bottle or sample size would be perfect. I’m sure you don’t want to carry around your very expensive 6 0z. Chanel N◦5, it’s okay I’ve been guilty of that. Also, don’t be embarrassed to spritz in public. WORK IT!!!

10. Attitude

I think this must be one of the most important items on this list. Always pack your purse with attitude and strut down those streets like the beautiful, confident and ORGANIZED woman you are!!! There will never be a day where you don’t need your class and sass. I guarantee it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
