After a long winter break of hibernating in bed and having no responsibilities, spring semester makes getting back in the college routine difficult. Nothing sounds appealing about the cold weather, the snow and all that future homework. During those first couple grueling weeks and even as the semester continues, a bystander can often hear haggard students muttering under their breath about being back at school. However, there are 10 most frequent phrases said by all college students about the spring semester.
1. "Why is it so cold out?"
If you're not blessed with constantly warm weather typically only found in southern schools, odds are you'll have to make a trek across campus in freezing temperatures. Students can be seen bundled up in parkas and scarves making their ways through the arctic tundra to get to class.
2. "Why is it so hot out?"
One day, it's cold and snowy. The next, the sun is shining and everyone is drenched in backpack sweat. Spring semester leaves all college kids confused as to how to dress for the weather. In the morning, it's practically snowing. But by the afternoon, everyone is ready to bring out the tank tops and start working on their tan.
3. "Why is everyone so sick?"
You're sick. Your friends are sick. That random kid who sits two seats over from you is sick. Your professor is sick. Even your pet fish is sick. Literally, the entire campus is sick with the flu or strep throat. No one is safe and there is no way to hide from illnesses lurking around every corner.
4. "No, I'm not sick. It's just allergies."
If you're one of the few lucky souls who manages to stay healthy, you might fall victim to another unfortunate illness: allergies. You're constantly reassuring people that you're not sick as you sneeze and have to wipe your nose on something random you find in your backpack. Convincing people that you're not sick isn't easy. A shocker, isn't it?
5. "Why isn't that class offered?"
How is it fair that not all classes are offered during the spring semester? Some people are trying to graduate on time and have a schedule to stick with. Not all of us have time to sit around and wait for the next semester to roll around.
6. "Must be frat rush week."
An increase in parties? Guys dressed up at sorority houses playing corn hole? All of these are normal occurrences during the spring semester. It's something that everyone just accepts: it's frat rush week.
7. "Is it Spring Break yet?"
Everyone deserves a break from work and that's exactly what Spring Break has to offer. Whether you plan on spending your week off at home with Netflix or at the beach getting wild, everyone can agree that they're counting down the days until it's break time.
8. "I have plenty of time to study for finals."
Spring semester is weirdly shorter than fall semester, so time flys much quicker even though it seems like we have plenty of time to prepare for finals. Well before you know it, you have an hour left until the exam starts and you don't even know where your textbook is to cram.
9. "Finals weren't that bad."
Some say this with confidence, others not so much. Some of us are blessed with fairly easy finals, others are cursed with nearly impossible finals. Either way, everyone is just relieved that the semester is over and it's time for a break.
10. "Wow that went by fast."
Spring semester seems to go by in a blink of an eye. Some of us will return back to campus after summer, some of us might have graduated and others might be saying goodbye to go to another school. Either way, no one can deny that spring semester sure does fly.
No matter how much the spring semester drags on, you can't deny that it's over in a blink of an eye. Each day seems grueling and long, but before you know, we're all headed back home or moving on to bigger things. No matter how much we groan and complain about the hectic spring semester, you can't help but appreciate it. What will you say this semester?
