The break was nice and all but come the last week of it, we were all itching to get back to school. Not necessarily for the work, but to get back home. Because let's be honest, our campus has become as much our home as our actual one. So it's the beginning of yet another semester, and whether it's our second or our last, there are thoughts I think we all share regarding the start of spring semester.
1. "Alarms will be the death of me."
Whoever said having an 8:30 would be a good thing? Sometimes I think we all think, "Oh, I'll wake up early and then I'll be super productive the rest of the day!" When in reality, that first alarm goes off and we feel death greeting us with a smile.
2. "Do I have time for a nap?
The crucial question that keeps us going throughout the day. Without naps, what would we be?
3. "I forgot how roommates work."
Whether we love our roommates or hate them, we went a month living on our own again, and coming back I know I forgot that sharing space is a thing.
4."Week One and I'm already drowning."
Somehow it's only syllabus week and already the workload is suffocating.
5. "How am I supposed to walk across campus in this weather?"
All of a sudden we get back to school and the winter winds are upon us. During the month at home we only went from a parking lot to a restaurant, and here we're expected to trek through this winter weather. By the time we get to class we'll only have a few minutes to defrost.
6. "My eating habits used to be normal..."
Over break, I know I tried to eat like a normal person. Three meals, occasionally healthy foods. I get back on campus and I'm eating chips at three a.m. or forget to eat all together.
7. Professors.
When they start assigning homework and about finals the first week, or begin teaching the first day... Do they know what week it is? We need to gradually get back into the pattern of school, please.
8. "Why do ice breakers exist?"
I know I had hoped that these awkward ice breakers would have ceased come college, but I was wrong. They will never die.
9. Lectures.
You forgot how boring lectures can be and how long they feel. And how uncomfortable those chairs are. And how easily you can get distracted. And how only ten minutes have passed. But you've already given up on paying attention.
10. "Gym? Or no gym?"
The dreaded gym. We all know we need to use it to our advantage, but are really emotionally ready for that? My favorite excuse is: I'm still trying to get used to my new schedule.
11. A Whole New Semester.
Coming back, all of a sudden it hits you. Sure the first semester is done and maybe you rocked it or your GPA physically hurt you, but nonetheless, you realize that it's time to do the whole thing over again.
