Let's start with the 10 we all definitely will miss.
1. Finzel Rd. Traffic
What better way to start the day than by being stuck in a line of cars at 7:44?! Not knowing whether the traffic would last 5 or 25 minutes was always a daily surprise I looked forward to. Sitting in my car doing nothing but wondering if I would make it to school on time was a great opportunity to deep think and really self-reflect.
2. Parking Lot Perfection
Speaking of driving, can we please talk about the flawless order maintained in the parking lots? It wasn't annoying at all when sophomores who just got their licenses yesterday parked in the senior parking lot. Sometimes people would park in places without any marked lines, making their own parking spaces. How creative! I only had to report cars that were blocking me in to the office like 32 times.
3. 4 Minutes Between Each Class
I never felt rushed. First class by the gym, locker upstairs, next class in the tech wing? No problemo! If Usain Bolt can run 27.8 miles an hour, why can't you?
4. Dissection Week
That smell though! Bottle it up and sell it to me in perfume form please.
5. Morning Announcements
So captivating. So witty. Such a hoot.
6. Assignment Notebook Passes
Leaving the classroom means you need to fill out the date, time leaving, time returning, location you're going within school, the longitude and latitude coordinates of that location, your mother's maiden name, your favorite childhood pet, social security, and I think a few other things before having your teacher sign it, giving you permission to step across the hall for a drink of water. These passes were especially useful when all the hall monitors would stop you asking to see your pass for being in the hallway.
7. OGT, AIR tests, PARCC tests, etc. etc.
Seems like they change every year? What even are they and do you have to take them? Who knows? No one! I love a good mystery <3
8. Freshman Hallway
Clean, serene, pristine.
9. That Media Center Speech About Finding Good Sources
You know the one I'm talking about. We've all heard it at least once, multiple times if we were lucky. Name something more thrilling to listen to.
10. The Study Hall Room
Not a secret that winters in Northwest Ohio are cold, being without a coat is unthinkable, and temperatures are often single digits. Same goes for good old Room 152. I love penguins, so I really appreciated how the air in there was permanently set to negative Antarctica.
Now that the good stuff's covered, let's move on to all the things we will not miss.
1. Homecoming Week
*Snooze* Nothing special. It's not like tons of activities are planned after school each day of the week. It's not like student council coming up with innovative ideas on how students can have a good time dressing up each day is fun either. Like geez, don't tell me what to wear.
2. Friday Night Lights
Do the games have to be on Fridays? I have homework.
3. Familiarity
I lightly acknowledged the fact that Fallen Timbers, the Jr. High, and High School are all on the same campus, so we've been going to school in the same area for 8 years. Sure, I pretty much grew up with everyone, spent more time on school campus than at home some days, and have known my friends since before my age was in the double digits, but so what?
4. Monclova, Waterville, Whitehouse
The Challenger Learning Center field trip, the Scholastic Books Fairs, and no homework... not cool.
5. Yearbook
Don't get me started. The only things that class was even able to offer me were chances to be endlessly creative, the most fun but organized work environment, and an incredibly inspiring teacher. Oh yea, and each of the 18 yerds spent 1 hour on all 180 days of school working on the book and even a few hours a day working in the summer. That's only 18 * 180 = 3,240 hours worked on your yearbook. Step it up, eh?
6. Kahoots
I would rather review by silently reading the textbook than by playing a game with my peers, thank you very much.
7. Model Congress
Heated debates are never fun to listen to. As if learning about government and how to argue for or against issues that you're passionate about will ever even be useful in life. Rubbish.
8. Amended Day
Being rewarded for having required classes done and a good GPA by letting us leave a period or two early...they say no idea is a bad idea, but this is an exception.
9. Getting calls/tweets from Dr. Fritz about a fog delay or snow day
Come on!!!! I was all ready to learn.
10. The So Called "Spirit"
Well, some teachers have "AW" on their license plates and some went to school here themselves. I guess some students get "AW" shaved into their hair, and I'm pretty sure Canada can hear our student section cheering during games. The halls bleed blue and white every football Friday, but I mean like, idk if you can really call all of that spirit.
