Maybe you don’t need convincing to go to a baseball game. You may already have the schedule written into your planner or follow the team’s updates on Twitter to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Just in case anyone out there still isn’t convinced of this great thing we call baseball season, check out the following 10 reasons intended to convince you to spend some time looking at a diamond this spring!
1. Conversation
Baseball games are perfect for friendly conversations. Grab a row on the bleachers with your friends and chat about anything and you’re guaranteed to have a good time no matter the final score. The game has enough pauses that it's easy to talk throughout and extremely natural to take a breath and let out a cheer for your home team after a great hit or play.
2. Fresh Air
The air always seems so clear during a baseball game. Its a perfect atmosphere to enjoy the sweet scent of freshly cut grass and newly blooming trees and flowers. Just make sure you take into consideration any outdoor allergies you may have and maybe take a Zyrtec before you head out.
3. Vitamin D
Most of our vitamin D intake comes from direct sunlight. So essentially going to a baseball game is physically healthy for you. Apply some light sunscreen and your body will thank you as you soak up some rays and cheer for your team.
4. Thrill of the Game
Baseball is FUN! You never know what is going to happen. Will the batter hit a home run or strike out? Can the pitcher catch the lead-off behind him? Did the player slide into the base before the baseman caught the ball? You’ll only know if you go to watch!
5. Free Stuff
Jimmy Johns, t-shirts, hats, scholarships. You never know what free stuff will be offered at the game.
6. Tailgating
Free beverages and free burgers. Its a crowd pleaser for people of all ages, 21 or not.
7. Walk-up Songs
Baseball walk up songs are like putting your iPod on shuffle, the odds are pretty high that at some point during the game, you’ll hear at least one song that you love (and one that your probably hate too,)
8. School Pride
Rumor has it that players actually appreciate it when they have fans. Shocking isn’t it. Actually attending a game and cheering on your team really is an encouragement to the players! Yes, its their hard work that earns the win but we can all agree that having someone cheering you on in anything in life makes the whole process a lot more enjoyable.
9. Chill Time
There can be stressful times like when an umpire makes a poor call or a player appears to be injured but a big majority of the time watching a game is super chill. There’s something extremely restful about hearing a ball cling off a metal bat and a crowd clapping in unison while watching the sun set and the field lights turn on.
10. Dogs
Most importantly since games are held outside, there’s a high chance to see a furry, four-legged pal running about. If the owner is nice you might even get to pet the little cutie. This may not be the most important reason, but its definitely a significant factor.
Make sure you check out your school’s baseball team at some point this season! Go to cheer them on but enjoy the benefits listed above. Its totally worth it!
