Boston has always been my favorite city. There are so many different aspects of the city that all come together to make it incredible. I love being so close to Boston because I can take day-trips down there as much as I want and still be able to experience everything that the city has to offer in that one day. Here are 10, very broad, reasons why Boston is the best city in the country.
1. The History
From the Boston Tea Party to the Curse of the Bambino, Boston is full of history. There is so much that they have the Freedom Trail going all around the city to take people from each historical site to the next. When you visit Boston, history is all around you. The city is very serious about preserving the parts of the city that have made profound impacts on the city the country, and the world.
2. The Sports
Yes, I have to mention the incredible sports as well as their fanbases that are based in Boston or the Boston area. The Red Sox, the Bruins, the Celtics, and the Patriots are all names that are important here. They are some of the best teams in the country and the citizens of Boston and the surrounding area know it and aren't afraid to tell you about it.
3. The North End
Whether you like Mike's, Modern, or some other pastry shop, everyone can agree that the North End is one of the best parts of Boston. Home to some of the best pastries, pizza, and Italian food, the North End is a go-to when visiting the city. It never disappoints. Plus it's the home to Paul Revere's house which is pretty exciting if you're more into history than food for some reason.
4. The Accent
I personally love Boston accents. I swear they don't know what the letter "r" is but that's okay because they make words more fun. Plus they say "wicked" like it's their job.
P.S. No, wicked isn't a bad thing. It usually means "really," but a more intense version of really.
5. Newbury Street
I have never experienced shopping in any way like Newbury Street. It's a dangerous place for you wallet though with stores like Armani and Tiffany's everywhere that you look. There are some less expensive stores as well but they are overpowered by the high-end stores.
6. The Streets
If you've never been to Boston you might not understand that driving there isn't really easy to do. The street plan doesn't make sense and it can be confusing just walking around let alone driving. I swear the people that designed the streets were just trying to mess everyone up.
7. The Commons and The Public Garden
Probably one of the most beautiful places in the city. The commons are home to ice skating, playgrounds, and college kids studying outside. The public garden is home to the swan boats and flowers and trees galore. Nothing compares to the effortless beauty of these two parts of the city, not even Central Park in the summer.
8. The Duck Boat Tours
These fun tour buses drive on land and in the water. They are a must-do for all people visiting the city and are a fun way to see the city.
9. The Education
Boston is home to some of the best colleges and universities in the world. From Harvard, even though it's technically in Cambridge, to Berklee to Northeastern there is a school for everyone. If you want to go to school in Boston, there is a good chance that you will find at least one school that you like.
10. The People
Whether you think everyone in Boston is a "masshole" or you get along with everyone there, the people in Boston do not compare to any other group of people. There's a sense of community that comes from everyone yelling at each other that doesn't compare to anything else. Plus, whenever something happens to the city, good or bad, everyone stands as one.
As a long time visitor and admirer of Boston, I can say without a doubt that it is my favorite city in the country by far. I hope that you all can make it up to Boston to see for yourself why it is so amazing.
