When I first proposed “Self-Care Sundays” to my roommate, I was half-joking. She chuckled a little, at first, and then we both stopped. Why did it seem so ridiculous to us to spare a few moments of our Sundays on ourselves? Why did it seem so preposterous, obscene, and almost impossible to take out some of our time and spend it focusing on ourselves?

I realized that it would be really therapeutic to spend a little bit of my Sunday downtime since I decided on at least fifteen minutes-- to do something that makes me feel good. Relaxing on Sundays should hype me up and prepare me for whatever may come in the week to follow.

I haven’t been doing Self-Care Sundays for long but I’m interested in seeing if taking out a chunk of time for me will make me feel happier in the long run.

1. Put on a face mask and paint your nails

You don’t have to go to a spa or a salon to get yourself looking and feeling good. Try your hand at painting your nails. I’m horrible at painting my right hand, so I usually ask a friend to help and get in some bonding time and conversation, too.

2. Play with a puppy

Puppy cuddles can turn any frown upside down! Pet your favorite furry friend for as much time as it takes to make you giggle.

3. Call a friend or your mom and ask for a pep talk

Hearing a comforting voice can make anybody feel infinitely better in a matter of a few minutes. Don’t be shy about leaning on other for help and support. Yes, it is okay to demand an on-the-spot pep talk every now and then.

4. Listen to a TED Talk that uplifts your spirit

TED Talks are perfect for getting motivated and getting pumped up. You’ll be able to face any challenges the week ahead throws at you with a little inspiration.

5. Take a well-deserved nap

Power naps are amazing and it’s completely excusable to extend a nap and catch up on some much needed Z’s.

6. Go for a run or crochet or sing your heart out or dance.

Whatever it is that you love, do it. Spend time on the hobby you never have enough room in your schedule to do.

7. Throw yourself a snack party

It's my favorite type of party! It’s pretty easy to throw, too. Enjoying your favorite comfort foods can make anyone feel at ease.

8. Doodle (on a whiteboard?)

Whiteboards are amazing and writing or drawing on them just for fun is so relieving. Forget about your To Do lists or your assignments for a few minutes and just draw whatever makes your heart happy.

9. Go shopping

Even window shopping is okay. I mean, really, they call it retail therapy for a reason.

10. Reflect

Think about what you’re proud about and what you want to work on. Count your blessings and daydream about your hopes and wishes. Be alone with your own thoughts for a while.

Self-care doesn’t have to be something deep or something that nine out of ten doctors recommend either! Self-care is making sure you leave some time for doing things that make you feel good about you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
