I'm sure you've all heard someone say "the world doesn't revolve around you" because maybe you were putting yourself before others. For some reason, this really stuck to me when someone said it to me several months back. As it continued to weigh on me, it got me thinking, which eventually led to me living my life completely differently. Absolutely every experience you will ever have or understand, is through your eyes. Your perception. Your physical being, wherever it may be at one time, that is the only window in which you will have any form of awareness. You deal with yourself and your thoughts every moment of the day, even when you're sleeping.
We all have our own little lives, our own family, friends, routines. 99% of what the population is doing, does not affect you personally. And vice versa. Unless you have a huge platform and/or plan on bombing a country. You get the point. Basically what i'm getting at, is your own personal little glimpse of life, revolves around you. It does. Any decisions you make, will affect your life. Any thoughts you have, will affect your life. Your being is constantly dependent on you. That's the only creature you're ever going to see through. That's the creature you have the responsibility of maintaining health, happiness and purpose for. It's not selfish to do what you can to provide the best for your mental and physical health. There's a way to take care of yourself without damaging other people in the process; which in that case, no one should be offended by any type of adjustments made to accommodate you.
I find it respectable when people do always put others before themselves, but in the end, it's completely foolish. Lift others while lifting yourself, but if you're getting held down in any way, let them go. The only person who can find happiness and peace inside of you, is you. Most people aren't meant to stay on the same path as you through life, don't sacrifice things for temporary people if it's going to affect you negatively. As cliche as this sounds, it's completely true... You cannot pour from an empty glass, make sure your own glass is overflowing before putting someone else as a priority.
