Your Sterotypes Do Not Define Me

If you judge a book by it's cover you'll never know the story you missed.

All my life I have been told "Oh you're such a tomboy," or "Oh what a little princess." I won't lie, I didn't pay much attention to these things growing up because well, I was a kid and quite frankly I didn't care. Yes, I have hunted all my life. I've also pretended to be a Disney Princess for a huge proportion of it (some would say I still do) and I find these things to be equally as influential on my life. I learned to bait a hook around the same time I got my first pair of glitter jelly high heels. I had no idea then how much I would thank my parents for this later in life. I got to be whatever little girl I wanted. When I wanted to attempt to put makeup on my face, I could, if I got a little too overzealous well my face was just camouflaged and ready for hunting season.

In high school it was a little more apparent. Some days I was wearing sandals and dresses. Other days I would be wearing sweat pants, slippers and camo hoodies. I noticed around then that this certain combination did not place me into any specific category. It was at this point that I decided this might be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love the fact that I can go from glamour to mud in five seconds flat, and be equally as happy in either situation.

In college you have all the freedom in the world. You choose what you want to study, who you want to hang out with, who you want to live with. It was in this world that I fell in love with the person I was. Split stereotypes and all. I got the chance to fully live out who I was on a daily basis. I could hang out with my friends and get all dressed up for a girls night out. Wear glitter on my eyes and five inch heels. The very next day, the very next hour, I could go out with friends and be off roading or hiking or doing absolutely anything that I wanted. So I am very sorry society will continue to strain to define me, but that in itself gives me more power to be myself than I have ever known.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
