Your Future Isn't Your Past

“The future starts today, not tomorrow.”

We all come across bumps in life, and we all struggle to get across them. Even someone who might be the strongest person. “It's being here now that's important. There's no past and there's no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can't relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don't know if there is one.” -George Harrison. Here are a few people who took their past, and are pushing for a better future.

1. Past: "Don't listen to anyone but yourself. You're beautiful & god only gives the hardest battles to the strongest warriors."

Future; "You made it baby. Wherever you've ended up, you can proudly say you made it." - H.D

2. Past; "DO NOT take him back. If he hurt you once, he's going to hurt you again. Quit letting him take advantage of you, you deserve better and you know it."

Future; "When he crawls back (because he will), shun him. Let him know how much he's damaged you. Like I said, you deserve better. Keep telling yourself that." - S.P

3. Past; "Things don't make sense now, but you'll be grateful for it later."

Future; "Good luck, and keep your head up." - H.H

4. Past; "You're stronger than this! You will get through this, it's only a temporary rough patch!"

Future; "I hope you finally realize how much you're worth! You can do ANYTHING you set your mind too!" - A.P

5. Past; "You should have loved yourself more and put yourself first instead of putting people first who aren't even in your life."

Future; "You're more than a nice body and a pretty face. Your intelligence is worth a lot more than a man who can't see past your looks." - M.M

6. Past; "You don't need a boy in your life to make you feel beautiful because you are beautiful."

Future; "Stay strong and always continue to be yourself and don't put yourself down because of people." - M.M

7. Past; "Look how far you've come, you did even when you didn't want to. You kept going, you pushed through and you made it."

Future; "Keep pushing yourself to your maximum because one day, everything will be okay." - T.T

8. Past; "Stand for something or you will fall for anything."

Future; "Progress. Growth. Focus. Only things you'll need." - A.C

9. Past; "Quit.."

Future; "Survive.." - V.R

10. Past; "Don't worry about what they think. Only worry about what makes you happy."

Future; "Stop failing your classes, you need to study more." - J.P

11. Past; "I wish I enjoyed high school more rather than skipping school all the time."

Future; "Never let someone bring your dreams down, always follow your dreams." - S.M

12. Past; "Slow down and enjoy life, put the drugs down, it's not wroth the world of self hate and pain that comes with ti. Be more adventurous, be kind to others, and don't be so hateful."

Future; "Stay clean, it does wonders. Don't mourn over things or people who weren't meant to be in your life. Go out and live your life to the absolute fullest, keep your grind strong, build your life up and live the shit out of it because within the matter of seconds it could be taken away. Take nothing for granted. Always be grateful." - M.W

13. Past; "You were weak, and you were at an all time low, and it wasn't worth it."

Future; "Don't wait for anyone. You are strong, and you are beautiful. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." - T.D

14. Past; "You're happy now, but you will become truly happy soon."

Future; "Don't read too much into things, and enjoy the little things." - S.R

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
